This invention relates tovfa Vnewand useful im. proyement in fuzes Afor .bombs `andi Lisi. .designed more particularly for use on vaerial bombsefor; attacking submarines or other .subaqueous'ftar` gets. It is operativeon` abombI which :is'lsubf: jected to an impact with the surfacelof-the water. and an impactwith the target, the formerimpact arming the fuze and thelatter impactcaus' ing the fuze to explode the-bomb '.The .par-'r ticularly novel feature of .-myrimproved-.fuze the means provided -for maintaining the lfuze une;k armed before and after tA'is-Sdropped untilits impact with the surface of .the-water:y iorflarming' the fuze by such impact whileipreventingf-explod ing of the bomb by such impact, andr-forexpl d" ing the bomb by its impact on thetarget.
The structure and operation of.-thexfuZe-otthis invention is substantially equivalentlto-thel fu'ze.- of my invention described. -andfclaimed iin/my copending application for Letters Patent entitled',v Fuzes for Bombs, Serial Number 683,378, ledl July 13, 1946. In thisl-applicationr,fmyinvention; relates to a mechanicallydetonated fuz'egi-while my copending applicationaforesaid relate'slto nl electrically detonated fuze'.
While I have lillustrated inthe! draw herewith` and have hereinafterfullyl describedl one specic embodimentof .mly invention, v-it `i^s-to` be distinctly understood that yI--dvo not consider' my invention to be limitedv to saidfspeciiiceme'fbodiment, but refer for its scope to `the-claims appended hereto. f- 1 'V- In the drawings: n y

Body 6, carrying its associated parts, is then passed rearwardly through head E, its nose 2 being off, and threaded into tail 3, the body 2i of pin '20 being received in bore 22 of tail 3 and pin 29 is seated. Container with booster charge C thereinis threaded into body plosive charge 1i and nose 2 is placed on head l.
When the bomb is about to be launched, the safety pin 29 is removed, and the fuze is maintained unarmed by pin 2!) seated in bolt I'Fiireel i of 'the bomb-on the target. 4
venting upward movement of block 9 so thatthe lead in train is interrupted.
when the bomb is dropped fiithe'piaieifte attack the submarine, the force oi its impact on the water is sufficient to cause the bolt l5' to move forwardly oir of the ringfffpin'f against-the thrust of spring i6 to therebyireleaseblock 9 which is then projectedefupwardly by its spring l0, the parts assuming the position of Fig.` 2, to arm the fuze. ,f Y
Itis to be particularly noted -that the .pin 2,0 is restrained from forward movement, fon this first impact, by the plate '2,3 bearing against the body 2 i, and the yoke 25 which bears against `the forward face of plate 25. surrounding pin 2o. IThis isa-n important feature of my improved. fuze, and
`itI is obvious from lFig. 1 that I'haveprovided means for holding the pin 2E! at rest when the bomb makes the impact with the water. It Will be noted (Fig. 4) that the yoke l2F, embraces pin 28 snugly so as to bear against wallr23 surroundingpin Ei and bearing against body 2|.
LWhen the blockQ has been moved upwardly (Fig.l 2) the yoke 25 is moved out ofthe pathof pin 2Q and that portion ofwall 23 about orice 2t. Stop pin it Ychecks-the.li'iward movement of block S, when `bore il carrying primer P is aligned with pin 2E and bore 'E leading to booster charge C, so that the lead in train is uninterrupted. i
When the bomb strikes the submarine or other object in the water, the impact Ycauses the pin 2Q to move forwardly, its body 2i rupturing the wall 23, and the body 2l slides onbottom. of slot i9, the'pin E@ passing through orice i4 of container i3 and striking primer P to detonatezthe bomb (Fig. 3).
Having described my invention whatgI claim v1. In a fuze for an aerialbomb, the combination of a slidable firing pin; a primer fired by percussion of said pin; a. slide in which said.
