My invention relates to twisting devices wherein the thread is imparted two twists for each rotation of the spindle, as against only one twist with the conventional devices.
In one type of such devices the thread from a fixed bobbin is introduced into the upper end of the bore of a hollow co-axial rotating spindle and then issues laterally therefrom below the bobbin. Under such conditions the thread is imparted a first twist at'its inlet into the spindle and a second twist at its outlet therefrom. Such an arrangement is very simple and effective; it permits the use of bobbins of large diameter, since the latter do not rotate and cannot therefore cause vibrations at high speed of the spindie, as in the conventional devices; but the difilculty is to retain the bobbin'against rotation with the spindle on which it is loosely mounted, since the said bobbin is wholly surrounded by the thread which rotates from its outlet from the spindle to the collecting guide disposed above the latter.
It is the object of my invention to provide improved means whereby the bobbin may be retained without the use of gears, friction members or the like.
A further object of my invention is to positively retain the bobbin without allowing any slip and without any loss of power.
Still another object of my invention is a twisting device comprising a sleeve rotatably mounted on the supporting frame and on the bobbin holder which is itself free on the hollow spindle, the said sleeve having its axis of rotation parallel to but slightly distant from the axis of the spindle.
Under such conditions the bobbin holder is rotatable about two different geometrical axes, i. e. the axis of the spindle and the axis of the sleeve. Since these axes are fixed, the holder is kept fixed and cannot rotate with either the spindle or the sleeve.
The sleeve is laterally perforated to permit passage of the thread and it is rotated at the same speed as the spindle itself, which is obtained by means of a flexible transmission joint interposed between the spindle and the sleeve. With such an arrangement the sleeve may fulfill its function, which is to retain the bobbin against rotation, without hindering passage of the thread issuing from the spindle and rotating therewith.
In the annexed drawings:
Fig. 1 is a general vertical section of a twisting device in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof taken along line II-II of Fig. 1.
The device illustrated comprises a fixed frame I supporting two ball bearings 2 which carry a vertical rotating spindle 3 rotated by belt B. The upper end of spindle 3 supports another ball bearing 4 carrying a cup-shaped member 5 on whichrests a bobbin holder made of three parts, namely a lower base 5 adapted to support the weight of the bobbin I, a circular plate 8 and a core 9, these parts being assembled together and with member 5 by means of screws such as I! and H.
A sleeve I2 is arranged around spindle 3, between frame I and member 5. This sleeve has its axis vertical, parallel to the axis of spindle 3, but slightly distant therefrom, as shown, or. in other words, sleeve I2 iseccentrically disposed with respect to spindle 3. The lower end of sleeve 12 is carried by a ball bearing l3 supported by the upper end of frame i, such ball bearing being of course somewhat eccentrically disposed with respect to bearings 2. Similarly the upper end of sleeve I2 is engaged into a ball hearing it supported by member 5 in eccentric relation with respect to bearing 4.
It will be understood that under such conditions the bobbin holder i-L-l is kept immovable when the spindle 3 rotates, such holder being bound to two diflerent geometrical axes which do not rotate one about the other. It will also be understood that sleeve I2 is quite free to rotate about its own axis, since it is mounted in ball bearings l3 and H disposed along the said axis.
Sleeve l2 and spindle 3 are angularly connected with each other by means of a rubber ring ll. Ring i5 is disposed around sleeve l2 and it is connected with the latter by means of two opposed radial rods l6 (Fig. 2) having their inner ends screwed into the sleeve. Rods I are formed with intermediate enlarged portions i1 against which ring 15 is clamped by means of nuts It screwed on the outer end of each rod i6. Ring I5 is also connected with spindle 3 .by means of rods l6 disposed at with respect to rods l5. Rods I6 are passed through openings I! provided in sleeve l2. They are screwed into spindle 3 by their inner ends and they are formed, as rods It, with enlarged intermediate portions I'I' against which ring i5 is clamped by end openingattheupperendthereoi'andextendins downwardly well below member I. Bore It communicatu with .the exterior in the vicinity of its lower end by an obliquely disposed tubular guide II of shortlensth.
The bobbin holder -4-0 carries an axial tube 22 which extends upwardly above bobbin 1. The upper end of tube 22 supports a vertical thread guide 23 on which there is mounted a rotating threadguideorflyeru.
Sleeve I! has, awide opening I! in front of guide II and it carries at its upper end, just below bearing It, a circular plate 2! having an upwardly -curved edge 21 and indentations 28 formed below the said edge.
The thread it issuing from bobbin ll passes through the eyelet 30 of flyer 24 and thence into guide 23, tube 22 and bore II. It then issues from spindle 3 through 2|, passes through open;- ing II of sleeve l2, between two successive indentations 28 of plate 26, along the curved edge 21 of the latter and thence runs upwardly towards an axial collecting u de of any description situated above the device described.
Bobbin [being kept immovable, there is obtained a flrst twist at the inlet of the thread into tube 22 or bore ll, and a second twist in the portion comprised between tubular guide 2i and the H flnal collecting guide not illustrated.
It will incidentally be remarked that plate 20 forms a flywheel which damps any irregularity in the rotational speed of sleeve l2.
There is thus obtained a twisting device imparting two twists for each spindle revolution, which is very simple in construction. which comprises no gears or friction members and which 7 may berun at very high speedwithoutany loss of power or any risk of slip; 1. :Ihis device may accommodate bobbins of large diameter.
It will be understood that the above description has been given merely by way of example and that it does not limit the scope of my invention as defined by the appending claims.
I claim: 4
l. A twisting device for threads and the like, comprising a fixed supporting frame; a rotating spindle carried by said frame, said spindle having an inner bore opening at one end thereof and frame and said open end; bearing means on said frame for said spindle; a bobbin holder loosely mounted on said spindle on the portion thereof comprised between its 'open endand said lateral passage; a rotatable perforated sleeve eccentrically disposed around the portion of said spin dle extending fromzsaid frame to said bobbin holder; bearing means for said sleeveon said frame, said second-named bearing means being eccentrically disposed with respect to said flrstnamed bearing means; bearing means for said sleeve on said bobbin holder in co-axial relation to said second-named bearing means; and flexible means forming a transmission joint between said spindle and said sleeve.
2. In a twisting device as claimed in claim 1,
said flexible means comprising a ring of a flexible material, said ring being disposed around said sleeve; radial armsoonnectingsaidringwith said sleeve; and radial arms connecting saldrlng said sleeve carrying at its upper end a circular plate with rounded edge to form a thread guide and to act as a flywheel steadying the rotation of said sleeve.

A twistingdevice for threads and the like comprising a fixed supporting frame; a pair of ball bearings supported by said frame in coaxial and distant relation; a spindle carried by said ball bearings, said spindle having an inner bore opening at one end thereof and a lateral passage from said bore to the exterior disposed at a distance from said open end on the portion of said spindle comprised between said frame and said open end; a third ball bearing supported by said frame in eccentric relation with respect to said spindle and externally of said pair of ball bearings, said third ball bearing being of such an inner diameter that said spindle passes freely therethrough; a fourth ball bearing carried by said spindle between said open end and said lateral passage; a bobbin holder carried by said fourth ball bearing; a flfth ball bearing carried by said bobbin holder in co-axiai relation to said third ball bearing. said flfth ball bearing being of such an inner diameter that said spindle passes freely therethrough and said flfth roller bearing being disposed between said fourth ball bearing and said lateral passage; a perforated sleeve carried by said third and flfth ball bearings, said sleeve surrounding said spindle and having its axis parallel to but distant from the axis of said spindle; and flexible means to form a transmission joint between said spindle and said sleeve.
6. In a twisting device as claimed in claim 5, said flexible means comprising a ring of a flexible material, said ring being disposed around said sleeve; radial arms connecting said ring with said sleeve; and-radial arms connecting said ring with said spindle through. perforations of said sleeve. V
7. In a twisting device as claimed in claim 5, said sleeve having a wide perforation in front of said lateral passage.
8. In a twisting device as claimed in claim 5, said sleeve carrying at its upper end a circular plate with rounded edge to form a thread guide and to act as a flywheel steadying the rotation of said sleeve.
