Description

Aug. 8, 1950 G. JANONIS TOILET PAPER HOLDER Filed Sept. 7, 1948 INVENTOR.
GEORGE JANONIS v wwlu mmhm ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 8, 1950 TOILET PAPER HOLDER George J anonis, Detroit, Mich. Application September 7, 1948, Serial No. 48,114
he invention relates topaper rollholders and more particularly to holde'rs for rolls of toilet paper.
It is the object of the inventionto obtain a simple construction and one which facilitates replacement of the rolls.
" "It is a further object to obtain a construction.
which is easily mountedin convenient position for use.
With theseobjects inview, the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is aperspective view of the holder in unmounted position; a
Figure 2 is a cross-section substantially on line 2 2, Figure 1,illustrating'themanner of engaging the parts in the placement of the roll;
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the parts locked in engagement with each other;
Figure 4 is a cross-section on line" 4-4, Figure 3; and g f r a Figure 5 illustrates a portion of a water closet flushing tank showing the manner of mounting the paper holder thereon. I p r My improved paper holder is preferably formed of sheet metal members including'a tubularcore member or spindle A, a roll holding flange B her A, and a bracketmember C detachably engaging the opposite end of said core member.
The member A may be formed from a sheet metal blank rolled into a cylinder, or it may be cut from a section of tubing; The member B is preferably attached by forming a plurality of tongues D projecting from one end of the member A passing through aperture in the member Bland turned-into clinching position. Theopposite end hi the core A hasanout-turned annular narrow flange E. The member C is a downwardly tapering strip or slideway provided at its opposite sides with return bent flanges F forming channels, said flanges preferably extending around the lower end of the strip. At its upper end the strip is formed with a rearwardly extending portion G and a down-turned flange H. These portions are so fashioned as to be adapted to hook over the top edge of the wall of a water closet flushing tank, such as I. The flange H extends downward within the tank, and the cover J when engaged with the tank holds the bracket member C in position adjacent to the outer face of the tank wall. The dimensions of the tapering portion of the member C are such that the core member A, together with its annular flange E, may be inserted between 6..Claims. (Cl.24255.'2)
its flange E when in final position.
the flanges F in one position and then moved downward between said flanges with the flange E engaging the channels thereof.. To lock the parts in this position a lug or stop finger Kis struck out from the central web portion of the member C to be above the core member A and However, to permit of movement of the member A and its flange E downward in the channels of the flanges without interference from the stop finger K, said member and flange is cut-away at L for the passage of said finger. The position of the finger K is such that in the position of the core member A for insertion between the flanges F, said finger will extend inside of the tube and when the member A is moved downward it will pass beneath the finger as permitted by the cutaway portion L. The flange E is not of uniform width, but is tapered so as to form in effect. a
cam portion E the narrow end of which is adjacent to the aperture L. Thus after the member A is moved downward to a position where its diametrically opposite sides come into con tact with the flanges F said member may be rotated whereupon the cam E will force it further downward or into frictional locking engagement with said flanges F. I
With the construction as described it will be understood that the members A and B may be separated from the member C by rotation of the member A until the aperture L registers with the finger K, after which said member A may be lifted to a position where the flange E will pass outward between the return bent flanges F.
The paper roll may then beplace'd on the core :A, after which the parts are reassembled as before described.
but if it is desired tomount it on the wall-this may be done by passing nails or screws through apertures M in the member C and registering apertures in the flange H which are provided for this purpose.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A toilet paper holder comprising a tubular core portion having a roll retaining flange secured to one end thereof and provided with a narrow flange at its opposite end, a bracket member having a downwardly tapering portion with return bent flanges on opposite sides thereof forming channels for receiving said narrow flange, the upper portion of said flanges being spaced for the passage of said narrow flange therebetween, and a finger projecting from said bracket member to be within said tubular member in the position of the latter for initial engagement with said bracket member, the narrow flanged end being apertured at one point for passage therethrough of said finger when said tubular member is moved downward, and said narrow flange being tapered to form a cam cooperating with said finger to lock said tubular member to said bracket member on the relative rotation thereof.
2. A toilet paper holder comprising a bracket attachable to a support and having an elongated slideway provided with spaced longitudinally extending channels, said slideway being provided between said channels above the lower ends thereof with a stop lug, and a spindle disposed at substantially right angles to and having an annular flange slidably engaging said slideway, diametrically opposite portions of said annular flange being within and movable lengthwise of said channels, said spindle and annular flange having a slot adapted to register withand permit passage therethrough of said stop lug when said flange is moved downwardly in said channels, said annular flange having a, cam portion, said spindle being rotatable after said stop lug has passed through said slot during downward mova men-t aforesaid of said flange 'so that said slot will be positioned out of registration with said stop lug and "said cam portion will be frictionally engaged with one of said channels to maintain said spindle-in fixed relation to said slide-way below said step lug.
3. A :toilet paper holder comprising a bracket attachable to a support and having anelongated :"slideway provided with a longitudinally extendfing substantially U-shaped channel, said slideway being provided between opposite: sides of said 'U-shaped channel above the base of said U with a stop .lug, and a spindle disposed at substantially right angles to and having an annular flange slidablyengaging said slideway, diametrically opposite portions of said annular flange being within and movable lengthwise of opposite :sides of said U-shaped channel, said spindle and annular flange having a slot adapted to regis'ter with and permit passage therethrough of said stop lug when said flange is moved downwardly in opposite sides of said 'U-shaped channel, said spindle being rotatable after said stop lug has passed through said slot during downward movement aforesaid of said flange so that said slot will be positioned out of registration with said stop lug and said flange will thereby be held by such stop lug against accidental displacement from said U-shaped channel.
4. A toilet paper holder comprising a bracket attachable to a'supportand having an elongated 'slideway provided with spaced downwardly converging longitudinally extending channels, said 4 slideway being provided between said channels above the lower ends thereof with a stop lug, and a spindle disposed at substantially right angles to and having an annular flange slidably engaging said slideway, diametrically opposite portions of said annular flange being within and movable lengthwise of said channels, said spindle and annular flange having a slot adapted to register with and permit passage therethrough of said stop lug when'said flange is moved downwardly in said channels, said spindle being rotatable after said stop lug has passed through said slot during downward movement aforesaid of said flange so that said slot will be positioned out of registration with said stop lug and said flange will thereby be held by said stop lug against accidental displacement from said downwardly converging channels.
'5. A toilet paper holder comprising a bracket attachable to a support and having an elongated slideway provided with spaced longitudinally extending channels, and a spindle disposed at substantially right angles to and having an annular flange slidably engaging said slideway, diametrically opposite portions of said annular flange being within and movable lengthwise of said channels, said annular flange having a cam portion, said spindle being rotatable while said flange is within said channels so that said cam portion will be frictionally engaged with one of said channels to maintain said spindle in fixed relation to said slideway.
6. A toilet paper holder comprising a tubular core portion having a roll retaining flange secured to one-end thereof and provided with a narrow flange at its opposite end, a bracket memgagement with said bracket member, the narrow flanged end being apertured at one point for passage therethrough of said flng-er when said tubular member is moved downward.
