The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in gun rests designed primarilyioruse 'by trap and skeet shooters for supporting the front or muzzle end of a gun barrel in a position on the ground to relieve a person of the weight of the gun and to hold the gun in a safe position when not being fired.

An important object of the invention is to provide a gun rest embodying means for attaching the same to the shoe of a person to conveniently move the gun rest from place to place.

A further object of the invention is to provide an adjustable clamp for gripping the sole of a shoe to hold the gun rest in position thereon.

A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in use, which may be easily and quickly attached in position to a boot or shoe without marring or causing damage thereto, and wherein the invention is otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view with parts broken away and shown in section;

Figure 2 is a bottom plan view;

Figure 3 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view taken on a line 3-3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3; and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary top plan view of the cup for the gun rest for use with double barreled guns.

Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates an adjustable clamp generally and which is constructed of a pair of bars 6 and 1 preferably of strap metal, each bar being formed with

8 and 9 overlying the other bar for holding the bars in longitudinally aligned overlapping relation, one with respect to the other, during inward and outward sliding adjustment thereof.

The upper surface of lowermost bar 6 is formed with a longitudinal row of recesses or depressions II] in which rounded buttons or protuberances II on the under side of bar I enter for holding the bars in adjusted position.

A pair of upstanding clamps I2 are formed withbar I5 adjacent its outer end and asingle upstandingclamp I3 is formed with bar I .at its outer end for gripping engagement with the opposite edges of a shoe or boot sole I4.

The bar 6 is formed with an arm I5 in the plane thereof which projects outwardly beyond clamps I2 and on the outer end of which a cup I6 is Welded or otherwise suitably secured.

The cup I6 is provided with a resilient pad I! and the outer end of arm I5, the bottom of cup I6, and pad I! are formed with aligned drain openings I8 to prevent collection and accumulation of water in the cup.

The cup I6 is adapted to receive the muzzle or outer end of a gun barrel I9 when pointed downwardly to thus provide a rest for the gun and avoid the objectionable practice of resting the gun barrel directly on the shoe of a person or on the ground.

In Figure 5 of the drawing I have illustrated a modified construction wherein the outer end of the arm 20 for the clamp is provided with a double cup 2| for receiving the end of a double barreled shotgun.

In the operation of the device, bars 6 and I are moved inwardly or outwardly to adjust clamps I2 and I3 to the Width of the shoe sole I4 and the bars and clamps are locked into position by the interengaged button I I and recesses II].

The cup I6 at the outer end of the device is thus moved from place to place as the person walks and is always available for resting the gun barrel I9 therein.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A gun rest comprising a shoe sole clamp, and a cup supported on the clamp at one side of the shoe sole for receiving the end of a gun barrel.

2. A gun rest comprising an adjustable shoe sole clamp embodying means for clampingly engaging the side edges of said sole, and a cup supported by the clamp at one side of the shoe sole for receiving the end of a gun barrel.

3. A gun rest comprising a shoe sole clamp, and a pad supported on the clamp at one side of the shoe sole for supporting the end of a gun barrel.

4. A gun rest comprising an adjustable clamp adapted for attaching to a shoe sole, and a pad carried by the clamp and positioned at one side of the shoe sole for supporting the end of a gun barrel.

5. A gun rest comprising a pair of elongated plates, means connecting the plates to each other in adjusted extensible relation, an upstanding clamp carried by each plate for grippingthe opposite sides of a shoe sole, and a pad carried by one of the plates outwardly at one side of the shoe sole for supporting the end of a gun barrel.

6. A gun rest comprisin a pair of elongated plates, means connecting the plates to each other in adjusted extensible relation, an upstanding clamp carried by each plate for gripping the opposite sides of a shoe sole, a cup on one of the plates and positioned outwardly at one side of the shoe sole for receiving the end of a gun barrel, and a pad in the cup.

'7. A gun rest comprising a pair of elongated plates, means connecting the plates to each other in adjusted extensible relation, an upstanding clamp carried by each plate for gripping the opposite sides of a shoe sole, a cup on one of the plates and A positioned outwardly at one side of the shoe sole for receiving the end of a gun barrel, and a pad in the cup, said pad and said cup having drain openings.
