(Cl. 4-251) This invention relates to a hygenic toilet seat attachment comprising a handle and deodorant dispenser.
It is the object of the invention to provide an attachment which can be applied readily to a toilet seat not only to facilitate the hygenic lifting thereof but to provide a pocket in which deodorizing or disinfecting material may be incorporated and from which it may be dispensed.

The toilet bowl may be conventionally equipped with a hinged seat 6 having its upper surface 7 conventionally rounded toward its inner and outer margins 3 and 4.
The attachment may be made of any appropriate material such as sheet metal, or plastic, or wire.
In the preferred embodiment the attachment comprises a fitting which includes both a handle and a receptacle for vaporizable material. However, the handle and the receptacle may be used independently as suggested in other embodiments shown.
The fitting may be aixed to the seat in any appropriate way. To avoid screwing the attachment to the under surface of the seat, the preferred plastic embodiment herein disclosed is made with hook portions 8 and 9 for clampingly engaging the inner and outer margins 3 and 4. The hook portion 9 carries a handle 10 which projects laterally beyond the seat. The hook portion is integral with a web 11 which desirabley lies flat against the under surface of the seat and provides a bevelled way 12 for a slide 13 which integrally carries the hook portion S.
The slide may either be spring biased to engage its hook 8 with the inside margin of the seat, or it may be anchored positively. FIG. 3 shows a biasing spring 1 which is anchored to the web 11 at 2 and tends to pull the slide to the right. If the slide is withdrawn to the left, the spring is deformed as shown in dotted lines, thus subjecting the slide to bias.
In the alternative disclosure of FIGS. 4 and 5, the slide and the way are desirably provided with complementary teeth at 14. Ordinarily these will sufiice to hold slide adjustment but optionally they may be pressed into engagement by the bias of a spring 15 having its ends engaged in pockets 16 at the sides of the way. The spring has a central convolution 17 bearing against the slide as best shown in FIG. 5. With the hook 9 of the attachment engaged with the outer margin 4 of the seat, the slide is pushed inwardly to engage its hook portion 8 with the inner margin 3 of the seat. The interlocked teeth 14 will hold the slide in position to secure the appliance to the seat.
The central web 11 is formed to provide a shallow pocket at 20 to receive vaporizable material, represented here in the form of the tablet 21. Lateral openings 22 permit the escape of the vapor. The vaporizable material may comprise deodorant, disinfectant or perfume or the like. The rubber bumpers shown in dotted lines at 23 hold the seat at a level such that the cup or pocket 20 does not engage the bowl.
It is unimportant whether the vaporizable material is in the form of a tablet or comprises a liquid impregnating a iat pad or other carrier.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 the fitting comprises a single piece of fiexible material such as plastic or metal, the hook Sti and the hook and the handle 100 being integral with the web in which the cup 200 is provided. In this instance the apertures 220 are in the bottom of the cup but it is immaterial wheher they are in the bottom or are in the sides as suggested in FIG. 4. This fitting is applied and removed by flexing it to and from engagement with the seat margins.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 8 the hooks 801 for engagement with the inner margin of the seat and 901 for engagement with the outer margin of the seat, as well as the handle 1111, are made of one single piece of spring wire bent as shown. The leg 24 of the spring wire is formed with a loop 25 to receive the cup 26 for the vaporizable material. To resist corrosion the spring wire or other metal parts used in embodiments of the present invention are desirably plated or rubber coated or made 0f corrosion resistant metal such as stainless steel.
FIG. 9 shows a fitting comprising a one piece handle 102 and supporting web 112 joined by adhesive 28 to the under surface 29 of the seat. This is merely illustrative of the fact that the handle may be used independently of the cup, if desired. FIG. 10 shows that the fitting for vaporizable material may comprise a cup to be used independently of the handle. The web 113 connected by adhesive 30 to the underside of seat 6 has a screw threaded boss at 31 to which the apertured cup 203 is detachably screwed.
I claim:
1. An attachment for a toilet seat which is supported in spaced relation to a toilet bowl, the attachment comprising a shallow fitting receivable within the space between the seat and bowl and extending transversely beneath a portion of the seat, and means for connecting the fitting with the seat and comprising hook .portions fitting the inner and outer peripheral marginal portions of the toilet seat and constituting the means for attaching the fitting to the seat, the fitting having a pocket for the reception of vaporizable material, the fitting being further provided with a laterally projecting handle for the manipulation of the seat to which the fitting is attached.
Z. An attachment according to claim 1 in further combination `with means for adjustably holdingone ofsaidV hooks in a position in which both engage said seat.

An attachment for a toilet seat which is` supported in spaced relation to a toilet bowl, the attachment comprising a shallow iitting of resiliently flexible material receivable within the space between the seat and bowl andl extending transversely beneathr a portion of the seat, and means for connecting the fitting with the seat and cornprising integral hook portions fitting the inner and outer I provided with a laterally .projecting handle for theA manipulation of the seatY to which the fitting is attached.

Claims (1)

1. AN ATTACHMENT FO R A TOILET SEAT WHICH SUPPORTED IN SPACED RELATION TO A TOILET BOWL, THE ATTACHMENT COMPRISING A SHALLOW FITTING RECEIVABLE WITHIN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE SEAT AND BOWL AND EXTENDING TRAVSVERSELY BENEATH A PORTION OF THE SEAT, AND MEANS FOR CONNECTING THE FITTING WITH THE SEAT AND COMPRISING HOOK PORTIONS FITTING THE INNER AND OUTER PERIPHERAL MARGINAL PORTIONS OF THE TOILET SEAT AND CONSTITUTING THE MEANS FOR ATTACHING THE FITTING TO THE SEAT, THE FITTING HAVING A POCKET FOR THE RECEPTION OF VAPORIZABLE MATERIAL, THE FITTING BEING FURTHER PROVIDED WITH A LATERALLY PROJECTING HANDLE FOR THE MANIPULATION OF THE SEAT TO WHICH THE FITTING IS ATTACHED.
