Description

ARTIFICIAL MUSTACHE CONSTRUCTION Filed July 20, 1949 IN V EN TOR.
Patented Aug. 1, 1950 ARTIFICIAL MUSTACHE eossmvenes Irvin H. Raditz, Benivymllm Application July 20, 1949, Serial No. 105,719
Claims.
This invention relates to an artificial mustache of the type worn for purposes of display, amusement and the like and more particularly a mustache of this type having its branches of such length as to enable the wearer to maneuver the same into a variety of shapes and poses to suit the occasion.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide an article of this character adapted to be detachably fastened in wearing position on the face of the person wearing the same and also embodying such features of construction and assembly as to render the branches or ends thereof readily adjustable to a variety Of poses.
Other objects of the present invention, including details of construction and method of assembly, will appear during the course of the following specification referring to the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of an artificial mustache forming the subject of this invention showing the branches thereof in an upwardly curved position.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View through the mustache taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view similar to Fig. 1 showing the mustache with its branches in an oppositely curved position.
As shown in the drawings, the mustache construction embodying the features of the present invention comprises an elongated mass of relatively fine threads or fibers ll], of wool, cotton, silk or any other suitable material. The threads ID are preferably rolled or twisted to provide a relatively short, compact rope-like section H which divides the mass midway of its length to form a pair of bush-like branches 12. Each of the branches l2 taper off to finely attenuated free outer ends 13.
Concealed within the mass of fibers Ill and forming a spinal member about which the outer ends [3 of the branches 12 are entwined is a strand of wire or similar semi-rigid material l9, said wire preferably matching the color of the fibers Ill. The wire 19 extends throughout the length of the mustache, there being a loop 20 formed at its midsection which surrounds the midsection l l of the mustache whereby the wire is fixed against relative displacement lengthwise of the branches l2. The relative rigidity of the wire 19 enables the wearer of the mustache to yieldably adjust the branches 22 into a variety of poses, including the poses shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings and yet is so concealed by the branches [2 as to avoid observation or detection.
The loop 20 formed at the midsection 0f the wire also provides an eyelet through which a U-shaped flexible clip or fastener 2| of metal or other suitable material is secured to the mustache with the arms of the clip projecting upwardly therefrom. As shown, the arms of the clip 2| present inwardly convexly curved inner surfaces 22 between which the fleshy mesial partition dividing the chambers of the nose of the wearer may be comfortably gripped to support the mustache in proper wearing position without exposing the clip to normal view.
The improvements accordingly afforded by the present invention not only provides an artificial mustache construction which is both comfortable to wear and readil adjustable to a variety of desired shapes but is relatively simple in construction so as to permit easy, quick and low-cost fabrication.
Having thus described a preferred embodiment of this invention and it being understood that obvious modifications may be made in the embodiment shown and described within the scope of this invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. An artificial mustache comprising an elongated mass of relatively fine threads arranged to form a pair of bush-like branches separated by a relatively short, compact section midway of the length of the mass, and means to yieldably support the branches in a variety of poses including a strand of semi-rigid material concealed within the mass and extending throughout the length thereof.
2. An artificial mustache comprising an elongated mass of relatively fine threads arranged to form a pair of bush-like branches separated by a relatively short, compact section midway of the length of the mass, and each branch tapering off to a finely attenuated free outer end, and means to yieldably support the branches in a variety of poses including a strand of semirigid material concealed within the mass and extending throughout the length thereof.
3. An artificial mustache as described in claim 1 wherein said strand of semi-rigid material is looped about said compact midsection of the mass.
4. An artificial mustache as described. inclaim 1 wherein said strand of semi-rigid material is looped about said compact midsection of the mass and means for detachably fastening the mustache in wearing position on the face of a wearer includes a U-shaped clip engaged through said loop in the strand of semi-rigid material.
5. An artificial mustache as described in claim 2 wherein said strand of semi-rigid material is looped about said compact midsection of the mass.
6. An artificial mustache as described in claim 1 wherein each branch tapers off to a, finely attenuated free outer end and the ends of said strand ofsemi-rigid material is entwined with said ends of the branches.
'7. An artificial mustache as described in claim 1 wherein a U-shaped clip is secured to the strand of semi-rigid material opposite the midsection of the mass.
8. An artificial mustache as described in claim 1 including a U-shaped clip secured to the strand of semi-rigid material presenting upwardly projecting arms opposite the midsection of the mass.
9. An artificial mustache as described in claim 1 including a U-shaped clip secured to the strand of semi-rigid material presenting upwardly projecting arms opposite the midsection of the mass and said arms present inwardly convex inner surfaces.
10. An artificial mustache as described in claim 2 wherein said mass of threads and said strand of semi-rigid material each match of the color of the other.
