Description

J. M. JOHNSON SHOWER BATH. HELMET Filed April 15, 1946 July 18, 1950 Patented July 18, 1950 UNITED STATES y j r 2,515,959 SHOWER BATH HELMET Julius Max Johnson, Lincoln, Nebr.
Application April 15, 1946, Serial No. 662,320
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to a helmet to be worn by a person taking a shower bath to keep the hair and face dry.
An important object of the invention is to provide a helmet which is so constructed that it will be supported from the shoulders of the wearer and the closed top of the helmet retained spaced from the head, and which will loosely receive the head so that it may be conveniently and quickly applied in place.
A further object of the invention is to provide a helmet having depending side extensions and hanger-loops in alignment with such depending extensions, so that the helmet may be manipulated by either hand, when placing the same upon the wearer or removing the helmet and hanging the same up.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application and in'which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout same, v
. Figure 1 is a front elevation of a helmet embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same,
Figure 3 is a vertical section taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates a helmet which may be formed of plastic material, which is stiff and transparent. This helmet is a unitary structure and includes a body portion 8 which is cylindrical or longitudinally straight and is open at its bottom. The top of the helmet is covered or closed by an end or top I, which is cylindrically curved, as shown.
At its lower end, the body portion 6 is provided upon its opposite sides with depending shoulder engaging extensions 8, forming openings or passages 9 which are arranged at the front and back of the helmet, when the helmet is applied to the head of the user,.and the depending extensions 8 rests upon the shoulders.
The helmet is of a size to loosely receive the head, and since it is cylindrical throughout the major portion of its length, it may be conveniently passed over the head by the user grasping either depending extension 8 by the hand on the side of such extension. The depending extensions engage upon the top of the shoulders and support the helmet, and the helmet is made sufiiciently long so that the curved top I will be spaced some two to four inches from the top of the head, which would prevent the hair being ample ventilation may be had, and access may be had to the neck without raising or removing the helmet.
At its front and back, the body portion 8 is provided with breathing openings ill, at the elevation of the nose, when the helmet is applied to the user. The openings I0 are oppositely arranged and each opening I0 is spaced from the depending extension 8. The openings III are covered by downwardly opening shields ll, secured to the front and back of the body portion 6, as shown. Rigidly secured to the closed top I are loop-hangers [2, arranged at the opposite sides of the helmet and in vertical alignment with each depending extension 8. It is thus seen that the depending extension 8 may be conveniently grasped by the hand on the same side of said extension, in applying or removing the helmet to or from the head, and since the loophanger is in alignment with such depending extension, it may be employed to conveniently suspend the helmet when not in use.
Since there are two depending extensions 8 to engage the shoulder, one extension 8 may be engaged by the hand, on the same side of said extension, and the helmet adjusted upon the head so that the extensions 8 rest upon the two shoulders. This will bring either opening l0 adjacent to the nose, for breathing purposes, and since there are two of these openings, it is immaterial which opening II] is in the front position. The passages 9 provide access to the neck at the front and back.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A shower bath helmet formed of stiff transparent material and of a size to loosely receive the head, said helmet including a substantially cylindrical longitudinally straight body portion having its lower end open and its upper end closed by a substantially spherically curved top, said body portion being provided at its lower open end with depending extensions disposed at its sides, said depending extensions being arranged to rest upon the shoulders and forming front and rear passages for providing access to the neck, the helmet being long so that its closed top is spaced a substantial distance from the top of the head when the helmet is in position and is supported by the depending extensions engaging the shoulders, said body portion being provided in its front and back with breathing openings arranged at an elevation to bring the same near the nose when either is in use, a shield covering each opening and secured to the body portion, and loophangers secured to the closed top of the helmet at the opposite sides thereof and in substantial alignment with the depending extensions, the arrangement being such that either depending extension may be engaged by the hand on the same side of said extension.
