This invention relates to improvements in straps for belts, braces, garters and. similar articles.

An object of the invention is to provide an improved strap that will present a highly attractive and ornamental appearance, that will be of simple, strong, durable construction and can be produced at comparatively small cost.

The invention, with other objects and advantages thereof, and the particular constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts con prising the same will be understood from the hereinafter contained detailed description, when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, and illustrating several embodiments of the invention.

The invention comprehends a strap for personal wear formed of transparent or translucent plastic material and having an interior channel or tunnel to receive a decorative medium, this special construction providing for-a wide selection in the form, arrangement and kind of decorative medium employed to obtain different ornamental effects, and for enclosing the decorative medium within the body of the strap. The tunnels or channels may be sealed at the ends thereof by heat-fusing or in any other suitable way. The plastic body of the strap may beprovided with one or more of the tunnels or interior. channels, the tunnels or interior channels may be of different sizes and shapes. incross section, and many different kinds of decorative material may be used. Colored. fabric cords of different. weaves,

for example, by heat-fusing, to the body of the belt at the folded endportion 4 thereof, the cord, in addition to serving as decorative means, also functioning in animportant way to limit the stretch or extension of the belt. As shownin Fig. 1 of the drawings, the belt l is formed with thickened bead-like portions 8 extending around, the side marginalportions and the marginal portion of the end portion 3 of the belt. These thickened portions act to magnify the diameter;

of the decorative cord l and enhance the ornamental effect when the strapis viewed from the;

The modified construction of strap shown in shown in Figs. 1 to 3, comprises a plastic transparent body with a longitudinally extending interior channel and a decorative medium within the channel, but, in this instance, the channel is disposed centrally of the sides of the strap. The channel is of substantial width and rectangula shape in cross section. In this view, l2 designates the plastic transparent body of the strap, I3 the interior channel and Hi the decorative medium within the channel. In this particular embodiment of the invention, a fiat woven ribbon is used as the decorative medium, the ribbon being of a color contrasting with the transparent or translucent body of the strap and presenting a central band of color through the body.

Referring to the modified construction illus' trated in Fig. 5 of the drawing, in this view l5 designates the plastic transparent body of the strap provided with interior channels I6 and I! extending along the side marginal portions there of, the channels being circular in cross section.

,In this particular embodiment of the invention,

the inner walls of the channels l6 and II are coated with a coloring material l8 of a color contrasting with the transparent or translucent body of the strap. In addition to the colored inner walls of the channels, stripes E9 of colored I plastic material or other suitable coloring are ap plied to the outer side faces of the plastic body I of the strap.

J The modified form of belt shown in Figs. 6, 7, 8' and 9 is the same as that illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, except that instead of the decorative cord, a decorative liquid filling is sealed into the interior channel of the plastic transparent body. In these views, 20 designates the belt constructed from a strap formed of plassuitable way to provide a connecting loop for the belt buckle 23. The interior channel 2|, as in the construction shown in Fig. 1, extends adjacent the side marginal portions of the belt and along 3 the marginal portion of the tapered end portion 22 thereof.

25 designates the decorative liquid filling within the interior channel 21, the liquid filling being introduced within the channel and the ends of the channel at the inner end 26 of the strap being then closed by heat fusing or in any other suitable way. Any suitable liquid may be employed for the decorative liquid filling, the liquid filling being colored to contrast with the plastic transparent body of the belt, and being either opaque or translucent.

The modified construction shown in Fig. of the drawings is the same as that illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 except that a decorative filling of colored plastic is used instead of a decorative fabric cord in the interior channel of the transparent plastic body of the strap. In this view, 21 designates the plastic transparent body of the belt, 28 the continuous interior channel, and 29 thedecorative filling of colored plastic. The colored plastic may be either opaque or translucent.

It will be appreciated that, in all forms of the present invention, there is a plastic strap or body of uneven or irregular shape exteriorly and having one or more longitudinally disposed channels containing an ornamental medium contrasting with the color of the plastic strap, which latter is further ornamented by enlarged rounded longitudinal beads at the edges of the strap along with the exterior open channels 30 and 3! formed in the front and rear faces of the body of the strap between the longitudinal edges of the strap or between the beaded longitudinal edges of the strap and whether the interior channel or channels are disposed'in the beaded edges or between the beaded edges of the strap.

It will be noted that the particular construction and arrangement of parts hereinbefore set forth provides a strap that has a highly attractive, ornamental appearance. It provides for obtaining many different designs and ornamental effects and the construction is of a simple, strong and durable nature, the decorative medium being enclosed within the body of the strap.

What I claim is:

1. A strap comprising a plastic transparent body having thickened bead-dike side marginal portions and having a continuous interior channel extending longitudinally along each of said side marginal portions, and a decorative medium within said channel of a color contrasting with the transparent body and enclosed by the same.

2. A belt formed from a strap comprising a plastic transparent body having a tapered end portion and. continuous channel therein extending along the side marginal portions of the body and the marginal portion of said tapered end portion, said channel being entirely interiorly of the plastic body and a decorative medium within said channel of a color contrasting with the transparent body and enclosed by said body.

3. A belt formed from a strap comprising a plastic transparent body having a tapered end portion and a continuous interior channel extending along the side marginal portions of the body and the marginal portion of said tapered end portion, and a fabric cord element within said channel substantially coextensive therewith, and of a color contrasting with the transparent body, said cord element having its ends secured to the other end. portion of the strap and serving to limit the stretch of the body, the cord element being enclosed within the body of the belt.

A belt formed from a strap comprising a plastic transparent body and a continuous interior channel extending along its side marginal portions and the marginal portion of one end thereof, and a flexible cord or chain element within said channel having its ends fastened to the body of the belt near the other end portion of the belt and serving to limit the longitudinal stretch of the belt said element being enclosed within the plastic body of the belt.

A belt formed from a strap comprising a plastic body having a continuous interior channel extending along its side marginal portions and the marginal portion of one end thereof, and a flexible member within said channel having its ends fastened to the body of the belt near the other end portion of the belt and serving to limit the longitudinal stretch of the belt, said element being enclosed within the plastic body of thebelt.

A belt formed from a strap comprising a plastic body having a longitudinally extending channel therein interiorly thereof, said body having a continuous unbroken wall completely. surrounding said channel, and a flexible member Within said channel enclosed by said body, said flexible member having its ends fastened to the body and serving to limit the longitudinal stretch thereof.

7. A strap for personal wear comprising a Onepiece transparent body having different spaced thicknesses extending longitudinally of the body substantially throughout the length thereof and also having an interior channel extending throughout the length of the body parallel with and between the edges of the body and of a cross sectional diameter less than the thickness of any portion of the body and forming the channel with an unbroken wall spaced from the exterior surface of the body, and a decorative medium within said channel extending throughout the length thereof and being of a color contrasting with the transparent body and enclosed wholly within the body.

8. A strap for personal wear comprising a onepiece transparent body having different spaced thicknesses extending longitudinally of the body throughout the length thereof and also having an interior channel extending throughout the length thereof parallel with and between the edges of the body, and a decorative medium within said channel of a color contrasting with the transparent body and enclosed by the body.

9. A strap for personal wear comprising a onepiece transparent plastic body having smootli, 5

rounded enlargements at the longitudinal edges thereof extending laterally beyond the front and rear faces of the intermediate longitudinal portion of the body and also having a longitudinal channel formed wholly within the body, and a decorative medium within said channel of a color contrasting with the transparent body.

10. An ornamental belt for personal wear comprising a transparent plastic body having a tapered end portion .and an interior channel extending longitudinally of the body and into said tapered end portion of the body, and a decorative medium within said channel extending throughout the length thereof.

111.v A belt for personal wear, comprising a transparent, elongated strap having continuous, longitudinally extending beads at the longitudinal edges thereof, said beads extending laterally on opposite sides of the strap throughout the length thereof, the thickness of the strap between said beads being thinner in cross sectional diameter than the cross sectional diameter of the beaded edges of the strap and forming ope-n channels on opposite outer faces of the belt between the beads, said strap having a longitudinal channel located within the strap and extending parallel with said beaded edges and said open channels, and a decorative medium confined Within said channel and of a color contrasting with said body.
