Description

June 25, H EBERT I LOCKET ATTACHMENT FOR WATCH BANDS OR THE LIKE Filed Feb. 17, 1954 INVEN TOR.
15F fierf United States Patent F LOCKET ATTACHMENT FOR WATCH BANDS OR THE LIKE Henry F. Ebert, Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor to Ebert & Company, Brooklyn, N. Y., a partnership comprising Henry F. Ebert and Emil J. Ebert Application February 17, 1954, Serial No. 410,838
2 Claims. (Cl. 63-19) The present invention relates to bracelets and particularly to watch bracelets.
More particularly still the invention relates to a bracelet having portions thereof which are adapted to be opened and to contain pictures or similar designs which are displayed when the portions are thus opened. In brief, the watch bracelet of my present invention comprises locket portions which are fixed to a watch at one end and to a flexible watch band portion of usual form at their other ends, thus forming a locket portion at each side of the wrist with a watch connecting these portions and lying on the upper surface of the wrist in normal usage and a flexible watch band connecting the opposite end of the locket portions and lying on the under surface of the wrist.
It is an object of the invention to provide a bracelet having at least one section thereof which comprises a locket and which is so constructed that a photograph may readily be inserted therein and may readily be displayed while the bracelet is in place on the arm of a wearer.
It is another object of the invention to provide such a bracelet having at least one locket section and having also a section which is elastic.
It is a further object of the invention to provide such a bracelet which is adapted for use with a watch.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide a bracelet having two locket sections which when the bracelet is in use lie at the sides of the wrist of the wearer and having a watch which extends between the two locket sections at one end thereof and a flexible or elastic band which extends between the two locket sections at the opposite ends thereof.
Other objects and features of the invention will be apparent when the following description is considered in connection with the annexed drawings, in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of the bracelet of my invention showing it used with a watch and illustrating its use when the portions joining the two locket sections is a flexible watch band having spring-urged links as is common in watch band construction;
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the locket of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the locket with the cover broken away;
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of the locket portion of the bracelet showing the mode of retaining a photograph or like memento therein; and
Figure 5 is a transverse cross-sectional view taken on the plane of the line 55 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings, there are shown at and 11 locket portions of a bracelet, these locket portions being shown in Figure 1 joined to a watch 12 at one end and to a flexible watch band portion of the usual spring link type 13 at their opposite ends. The locket portions 10 and 11 are identical and, as shown particularly in Figures 2 through 5, they comprise a base portion 14 having an extension 15 at its upper end which, al-
2,796,747 Patented June 25, 1957 though shown as curved, may be straight, may be bent into loop form and has placed therein a ring 16 or a tube or spring pin, not shown, by means of which the base is joined to a watch or other device such as 12. The lower portion of the base 14 is bent into the form of a 5 loop as shown at 17 and a pivot pin 18 is inserted in this loop. Base 14 is also provided with the upstanding side walls 20 and 21, see Figures 3 and 5, which portions are bent inwardly at the top forming the inwardly extending flanges 22 and 23.
A photograph such as is indicated at 24 in Figures 3, 4 and 5 may be inserted between the base 14 and the flanges 22 and 23 being held in place by its inherent resilience as well as by the resilience of a transparent plastic cover such as is indicated at 25 which may be a thin sheet of cellophane or the like.
Pivoted to the base 14 is a cover member 26 which is formed in a decorative form and has depending side walls 27 and 28 which extend over the side walls 20 and 21 of the base 14. This member 26 is provided with apertures in the side walls 27 and 28 adjacent the lower end thereof into which the pivot pin 17 extends, thus providing for opening the memento container by merely pivoting it about the pivot pin, and thus displaying the memento such as a photograph which is contained therein. Due to the location of the pivot pin 18 at a point removed from the end 30 of the cover, the tension exerted by the band 13 aswell as the resilience of the flesh tend to move the cover to closed position. The side walls of the cover member 26 are provided with a slightly inward inclination so that they snap about the upstanding side walls of the base member and hold the cover normally in its closed position, it being understood that any other suitable latching means may be provided if desired. The cover member 26 is provided with an extension of the top portion thereof which may be bent over as indicated at 30 and thus serves to hold a link 31 by means of which the locket 10 or 11, as the case may be, is attached to the terminal link such as 32 or 33 of the flexible watch band portion 13. If desired the watch band portion 13 may be attached to cover 26 by piercing the side walls 27 and 28 and utilizing the usual spring pin.
Although a spring link watch band has been shown, it will be understood that my invention may also be used in connection with watch band portions which are leather straps, ribbons, flexible metallic members and other such structures as are commonly used for watch bracelets. Additionally, although the locket bracelet has been described primarily in connection with a watch, it will be understood that the watch may be omitted and the two locket portions joined by ribbons, straps or the like at both ends. Therefore, while I have described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be understood that the modifications mentioned as well as others may be made without departing from the spirit thereof and I wish to be limited not by the description, but on the contrary, solely by the claims granted to me.
What is claimed is:
1. A locket adapted to be incorporated into a bracelet, said locket comprising a longitudinally curved container portion, said container portion comprising a base, upstanding side walls, and inwardly turned flanges on said side walls, extensions on said base at either end thereof, said extensions being bent inwardly to form loops, said loops serving as end walls for said container, said loop at one end of said base serving to connect said locket portion to another portion of a bracelet, a cover, said loop at said other end encompassing a pivot pin on which said cover is mounted, said cover comprising a top and depending side walls, said side walls extending over the side walls of said container when said cover is closed, and an extension on said cover member at the end there- 3 4 of adjacent said pivot pin, said extension being formed References Cited in the file of this patent nt a l99P @i 99 se vin toconeect sa end of sai UNITED STATES PATENTS locket to another portion of said bracelet, i
