BRACKET Filed Feb. 15, 1949 INVENTOR, Edward R. flaqz s;
firroRNEY)? Patented Apr. 11, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a fiatiron cord controller.
An object of the invention is the construction of a device designed to be clamped on an ironing board, to guide the flatiron cord so as to prevent ruffling the material during the ironing of same on the board.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device with a suitable roller peculiarly mounted, to allow the cord to follow the iron and to recoil with ease, thus leaving the ironing board free for the next operation.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an eflicient and novel device which when clamped in place at the center of one end of the board, whereby the-cord is in direct center of the board at all times, during operation, and the cord cannot fall over the sides of the board.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the same applied to an ordinary ironing board.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the device, while Figure 3 is a view in front elevation.
Figure 4 is a view of the blank prior to folding.
Referring to the drawings, in which the preferred embodiment of this invention is illustrated, I designates the body of the device and 2 is the substantially U-shaped spring clamp. The body I is provided between its side edges with two parallel flanges 3, that are at right angles to the flat body I. The outer ends of the parallel flanges 3 are provided with spring jaws 4. Registering apertures 5 are formed in the flanges 3, with an axle pin 6 placed therein. On axle pin 6 is preferably a wood roller 1. This roller 1 is grooved as shown in Fig. 3 and the grooved portion of said roller registers with the space between spring jaws 4. By this construction, the cord 8 is permitted to pass freely back and forth, always being retained substantially at the inner end of the ironing board, not falling over the sides of said board, whereby the cord is free of the garment or material that is being ironed.
In Fig. 4, the blank is shown from which the finished device is produced. By reason of this being a sheet metal device, it can be manufac-- tured at a low cost, since the device can be formed first as shown in Fig. 4 and then quickly folded to produce the novel construction as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Furthermore, the blank material used possesses sufficient springy characteristics as to produce in the clamp 2 an efficient action. for retaining the device against accidental displacement off the ironing board.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a roller support for an ironing cord guide comprising a blank consisting of a flat metal strip having a body taperingly decreasing in width from one end to the other and having a parallel sided projection extending in alignment from the smaller end of the body on its center line, said blank being provided with a slit on its center line extending from the outer end of said projection into said body for substantially one-third the body length, said blank further having a transverse slit at the inner end of the longitudinal slot of a length equal to the width of said projection, said blank having the portions at each side of the longitudinal slit bent to provide parallel flanges with their upper ends bowed inward and further characterized by having its wider end bent to form an ironing board engaging clip.
