The structure of;` the instant' invention may be readily disassembled' and reassembled for cleaning and other purposes.
The inventionl is selfcontained, the applicator parts hav-ing interengaging meansto enable them to be assembled and disassembled at the will of the user, in alfacile -andrapid manner.
The foregoing, and other advantageous ob.- j'ects, which will later appear, are accomplished by thestructure' of my invention, of which certain embodiments arel illustrated inr the accompanying drawings. The tubev andi-other partsof the applicator may be madev of' anyr suitable or convenient' material, as, forexample, a transparent or translucent thermoplastic or ther-mosettingf material, preferably of such'design as toprovide for view ing the passage'of material-l through the. applicator tube.
Pursuant to theA invention'. herein` described, the applicator tube-isprovide'd with a collar fixed to the upper end'thereofandy having an aperture in which the plunger.' may' be fully reci1: 'rocat'ed,v saidfaperture"beingc ofy suflic'ient diameter' tol permit withdrawal theretl'irfo'ugh of the. plunger and thel enlarged. piston-1 end thereof; for cleaning and other purposes. The assembledy applicator of my invention comprises the'partslshownin Figs. 1 and 2, the plunger I3 being positioned in. the tube' I0 and being' adapted to" betreciprocated" therein. The closure'ring I6' and collar I5have complementary means (such asthreadedr portions. as shown.) to seat the ring in: the'. collar. 8, said closure ring IB may be disengaged from the collar I5, so that the plunger I3 and its associated parts (see Fig. 2) may be withdrawn from the tube I0, to provide for complete cleaning, etc., of said parts. Thereafter, the applicator may be reassembled as above described.
In Figs. 10-15, there are illustrated other forms of the invention.
In the form shown in Fig. 10, the collar 25 secured to the upper end of the applicator tube 26 is externally threaded as at 2l, to be threadedly engaged by the complementarily threaded portion 28 of the closure ring 29. The opening 39 of the ring 29 is of greater` diameter than the plunger 3| but is of less diameter than that of the piston secured to the lower end thereof.
It will be understood that the piston I4 of Fig. 2 is secured to the lower end of the plunger I3. In the various forms illustrated in Figs. 10-15; a showing thereof has been omitted in the last mentioned gures to avoid needless duplication in the drawings.
The plunger 3I has secured to the upper end thereof a head 32, said head and ring being provided with complementary interengaging keying means 33--34 which are adapted to seat the ring 29 on the collar 25 when the head 32 is rotated in one direction, and to provide for disengagement thereof when the head is rotated in an opposite direction.
In form shown in Fig. 1l, the applicator tube 35 has a collar 36 secured to the upper end thereof, said collar having an aperture 36a and an internally stepped portion 3l'. The ring 39 is provided with a complementarily stepped portion 3B adapted to frictionally nt within the stepped recess 3l of the collar 35 to normally frictionally seat said ring in the collar. The ring is provided with rim :lil projecting beyond the circumference of the collar 3G. The rim i0 may thus be readily grasped to forcefully remove the ring from its seat in the collar, when so desired, to provide for complete withdrawal of the plunger from the tube. The plunger 4I is provided with a head 42 for facility of operation of the plunger.
In the form shown in Figs. 12 and 13, the tube 43 has a collar 44 secured to the upper end thereof, said collar` having a stepped, recessed, portion in which the complementary portion 46 .of the ring I? may be frictionally seated. The jplunger 23 has secured to the upper end thereof :the head 43. The ring 47 and head 48 are provided with complementary interengaging means A.to permit the withdrawal of the ring Elphysically from the seat of the collar. Said keying means may comprise a bayonet-'slot arrangement 49-50.
In the form shown in Figs. 14 and 15, the ring YI is seated in the collar 52, and the head 53 is secured to the upper end of the plunger 54, the ring and collar being provided with complementary interengaging means comprising bayonet-slot members 55-56; in the form shown in Figs. 14 and l5, the pins 56 are secured to the ring 5I and the slots 55 are disposed in the head member, whereas, in Fig. 12, the reverse arrangement is shown.
The drawings show (Figs. 1-9) the cap II and collar I5 as separate units secured to tube I0, but
they may be molded with the tube I 0 so as to dene therewith a single article of the combined general outline of the three separate parts (tube I0, cap II and collar I5). Similarly, the plunger I3, key head I'1 and piston I4 may be molded as a single article, if so desired, or may be formed as shown in the drawings of the three separate parts secured together in any desired or convenient manner. The corresponding parts, shown in Figs. 10-l5, may be similarly formed.
It is noted that the collar I5 is xed to the tube Ill permanently. Likewise the collars 25, 36, 44 and 52 are permanently fixed to the tubes 26, 35, 43 and 51, respectively. All of the rings I6, 29, 38, 45 and 5I are detachable from their associated collars.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An applicator comprising an elongated tube, a collar permanently fixed to the upper end of said tube, a closure ring detachably secured to said collar, a plunger slidably disposed in said ring, said plunger having a piston on one end thereof and a head on its other end, said ring having an aperture of greater diameter than the plunger but of smaller diameter than the piston, said ring and collar each having complementary securing means thereon to detachably secure the ring on the collar, said head and said ring each having complementary interengageable means thereon arranged respectively in opposed relation to each other whereby said collar and said ring may be readily assembled and disassembled.
2. An applicator comprising an elongated tube, a collar ixed permanently on one end of the tube, a closure ring, said collar and ring having interengageable complementary screw threads thereon whereby said collar and ring may be detachably secured together, a plunger movably disposed in said tube and slidably guided in said ring, said plunger having a head on one of its ends and a piston on its other end, said head and said ring each having interengagable means thereon arranged respectively in opposed relation to each other whereby said head and said ring may be rotated as a unit when said means are interengaged to readily disassemble said ring from said collar.
3. The construction set forth in claim 2 in which the collar is externally screw-threaded and said closure ring is provided with internally located screw threads cooperating with said threaded collar.
4. The construction set forth in claim 2, in which the collar is provided with internally located screw-threads and the closure ring is provided with externally located screw threads cooperating with the screw threads of said collar.
5. The construction set forth in claim 2, in which the head is provided with radial vancs, said closure ring being provided with radial recesses adapted to selectively receive said varies, said varies and said recesses being arranged respectively in opposed relation to each other.
6. The construction set forth in claim 2, in which the head is provided with substantially housed vanes, said closure ring being provided with radial stop portions arranged in opposed cooperative relation to said vanes.
7. An applicator comprising an elongated tube, a collar permanently fixed on one end of said tube, a closure ring for said collar, said collar being internally screw-threaded, said closure REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the ile of this patent:
