The invention relates to compression extractors and more particularly to that type of extractor in which fluid pressure exerted againstA a ilexible diaphragm compresses the material operated upon between said diaphragm and an apertured portion of an enclosing casing to extract liquid from said material. 1
In extractors of the type above described the iiexible diaphragm is usually provided with a beaded edge which is clamped between the casing and a retainer ring, and in some instances this type of anchorage has given trouble because of the cracking or splitting of the diaphragm at the anchorage point. The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved form ol' anchorage connection for the diaphragmr with the casing which eliminates. the possibilityy of the cracking or splitting of the diaphragrn'a-t or adjacent to the joint.
A further object of the invention is to vide an arrangement in which the diaphragm anchorage is not a load transmitter for the cover,

The invention further consists in the severalr features hereinafter set forth andvmore particu-` larly dened by claims at the conclusion hereof. Referring to the drawings:

Figs. 1 to 3 show the invention incorporated in an extractor of the type shown in my co-pending application Serial No. 558,255, filed October 11, 1944, embodying an apertured extension between the usual top of such. extractors and the cover. The extractor comprises a metal walled container 6 having an annular flange 'I gspaced from its upper rounded edge 8 and an opening 9 in its bottom connected by a pipe Ii) to a valve I I, which controls the inlet-of pressure uidfrom a pipe I2 and the outlet of said uid through a pipe I3, said valve being operated manually through a rotatable shaft I4 and a lever I5 connected thereto. The pipe I2 is connected to a suitable source of pressure uid, such as water, steam, or compressed air.
The container 6 is mounted in a suitable frame I6, which is formed with a cylindrical wall extension I'I and an annular partition I8 to provide an annular drainage space I9 connected to a f 2 drain pipe 20. The extension has hand vhole openingsA I1 therein.

The top flange 33 of the clamping ring abuts the top surface of the outwardly extending flange of the base 28 and the bottom iiange abuts and has an inclined face 34 abutting a similar face on the bottom side of the flange 'I to form a wedging connection therewith which draws the ring portion 28 down into assembled relation with the top edge 25 of the bag when the ring sections 3l are secured together by the clamping bolts 35 which.A extend through thel spaced ears 36 of said sections, these bolts also drawing'the ring section firmly about the edge portion 22 of the bag to form a water-tight con nection between the bag and the container.
' A cover 3l has a slidably interlockable connection with the top ring portion 38 of the extension I'I and includes a rim portion 38, to which the top proper 40 is secured and a foraminouslining 4I spaced from but secured -to a top plate 42 by a series of spacers 43, said lining A`fitting over the top of the extension 26. The spacebetween the plate 42 and the lining communicates with the drainage space I 9. The vtop of the casing extension does not take the weight of the cover, and when the uid pressure is on, the cover may be slightly spaced therefrom. An inwardly extending locking ange 44 is secured to one-half of the to-p ring portion 38, and another inwardly flan-ged semi-cylindrical locking ring 45 is secured to'one-'half of the rimportion 39 of the cover. The flange 44 of the ring 38 is adapted to project over the upper part of onehalf of the cover rim 39 when the cover is closed to hold this rim between it and the top ring 38 and thus prevent upward movement of the right hand halfof the cover. The iiange 46 of the ring 45 is adapted to project under one-half of the top ring 38 when the cover is closed while fixed rails 41 are provided uponi which wheel'sfi) journalled in brackets 49 carried by the cover' are mounted, so that the cover rides4 on the.` rails.` into and out of operative position with the casing.
The operation of the extractor is generally similar.` to that of the' aforementioned application, the only difference being inthe typev of con-- nectioxr. between the bag and. the'- casing, the. conneetion` herein shown being of. improved form.

A cover 55 has an apertured lining 56 secured thereto spaced relation and extends over the top ofthe ring 50;, said cover having a bracket 51- secured thereto andcarrying a, pulley 58 for a hoist suspension rope 59 that may be used in con.- nection with a swinging derrick shown in my prior U.
