2 Claims.
This invention relates to pendants, grips or locators for pull chains, for lamps and similar articles, and has for tis main object to provide a novel device of this character which will be more eflicient than those used for similar pur poses at present, at the same time being very simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to apply, and still strong and reliable in use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device,'as characterized. hereinbefore, which will have several wings with surfaces adapted for advertising or other information to be displayed thereon, or the wings themselves may be formed into a desired display.
Still further objects of this invention will be partly apparent and partly pointed out as the specification of the same proceeds, and, among others, I may mention: to provide a device of this type which will be attractive in appearance,
easily grasped when its use is needed, even while the same is placed into various positions, by an air current, or by the action of a fan or the like, and which will rotate under the action of such fan and therefore add to the attractivenes of the same, and additionally call the attention of the observer to the display or advertisement carried by it.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and accompanying the same:
Fig. 1 shows a blank to be used for one pair 'of wings in a preferred embodiment of my invention, and
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 3 shows a blank by which another pair of wings are formed in the completed device, in co-operation with the blank of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a disk used to secure the wings together and keep them in the desired position;
Fig. 5 is a side view of the completed device, and
Fig. 6 is a plan view thereof.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, by characters of reference, the numeral l indicates a blank, in general, cut out of any appropriate sheet material, like cardboard, wood or plastics, having right hand and left hand wing portions II and 12, an intermediate portion, generally indicated by the numeral I3, connecting the two wings, and an upstanding central projection M.
An opening I is provided in the lower part of a central or connecting portion l3, whereby a loop member I6 is formed, connecting the lower parts of the two wings II and I2, said loop to be used for pulling the device, as will be more fully explained hereinafter.
A vertical central slot I1 is provided in the upward projection It, to a desired depth thereof, and on the two sides of said slot are arranged holes l8 and [9 into which the pull chain, or cords securing the device to the pull chain, may be inserted.
Fig. 3 shows a companion blank, generally indicated by the numeral 20, having the right hand and left hand wing portions 2| and 22, and an intermediate connecting portion 23 from which is projecting an upward member 24, similar to the upward projection l4 in the blank Ill.
As will be more fully shown presently, these two blanks will be secured together perpendicularly to one another, by the use of said slots, whereby a four winged device, illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, will be produced.
For such securing and keeping the two blanks in said relative perpendicular position, I employ a specially formed disk 26, illustrated in Fig. 4, the disk having communicating, perpendicular, transverse slots '21 and 28 in its center, and two corresponding pairs of slots or incisions 2'la and 27b and 28a and 28b, respectively, at the ends of the diameters of the central cross slots 27 and 28. To form my novel pull chain pendant, the blank 2?} will be pushed over the blank Ill, perpendicularly thereto, by sliding the same through the slot IT in the blank l0, and then over a portion of the central connecting part 13, indicated by the numeral 29, the slot 25 in said blank 20 engaging said portion 29 of the material of blank Ill, while obviously slot l! in the blank [0, will engage the two sides of the central upward portion 24 of the blank 20.
By these mutual slot and plate material engagements of the two blanks, the same will be placed into the perpendicular position to one another, indicated in Figs. 5 and 6.
To further secure them in this position, and prevent their relative movements, disk 26 will now be placed over the two central projections 14 and 24, respectively, its central cross slots 21 and '28 engaging the respective projections and sliding down thereover, so that said disk 26 will finally come to rest on the shoulders or upper edges Mia. and |3b in the central connecting part l3 of the blank ill, and on the shoulders or edges 23a and 23b of the connecting part 23 of blank 20. The outer marginal incisions of slots 21a and 21b and 28a and 28b will engage the respective portions I30 and 13d of the wings H and I2 adjacent the same device on such a pull chain, as will beunderstood. The device will hang at the lower end of the pull chain or cord in the-position indicated in Fig. 5, and, when it is desired to'use it, for instance, for switching on or extinguishing an electric ceiling light, a downward-pull; indicated.

Both surfaces of thefour wings ll, l2, 2i and 22, respectively, may be used for advertising; display, information, etc., whereby my device will provide eight such surfaces. It alsowill be seen that no matter which way a person looks at the device; one of these displays and advertisements may be easily read:
My device, by its novel and very attractive appearance, willcallthe' attention-of people to the advertisements or displays carried thereby.
Finally, the wings ofmy device not only may carry advertisements, etc. but the wings themselves may be formed into an desired shape, like imitating a well-known symbol, person, character, etc.
While I have-shown-a preferred embodiment of my invention, itis to be understood that changes and variations may be resorted to in the elements and combinations of the same, and I reserve my rightsto such changes and variations as are within the spirit of this specification; and" the scope ofthe claims hereunto appended.
What I clain'ras new, and'want'toprotect by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A pendant for pull chainscomprising two winged blanksofsheet material, each blank hav-- ing an upward projection in its center, a downward slotbeingprovid'edin'about the center of the upward projection of=one of the wing blanks, and an upward slot'beingprovided in about the center of the other-wingblank from the bottom edge thereof, whereby the two blanks may be telescopically secured together, the blank with the upward slot sliding down through the downward slot of the other blank, whereby its projection will be engaged in said downward slot of the other blank, and it will engage the material of said other blank by its own upward slot, a circular securing disk, having two center slots transversely crossing one another, said disk being slid over the two upward. projections, its respective slots en gaging them, and said" disk resting. on the upper edges of the respective wing blanks, inward marginal diametrical slots from the periphery of said disk in line with the respective central slots, said marginal slots-being adapted to engage respective portions of the wing blanks.
2; A pendant for pull chains comprising two wingedblanksof sheet material, each blank having an upward projection in its center, a downward slot being provided in about the center of the upward projection of one of the wing blanks, and an upwardslot being provided in about the center of the other wing blank from the bottom edge thereof, whereby the two blanks may be telescopically secured together, the blank with the upward slot sliding down" through the'downward slotof the other-blank, whereby its projection will be engaged in said downward slot of the other blank, and it' will engage the material of said other blank by its own upward slot, a circular securing disk, having two center slots transversely crossing one another, said disk being slid over the two upward projections, its respective slots engaging them; and said disk resting on'the upper edges of'the respective wing blanks, an aperture being provided in the centrallower part of the wingblank, having'the downward slot in its upward projection, whereby a loop will be'iorined in its lowermarginal portion, adapted to exert a pull thereon by that loop, and means to secure said wing blank, having'a loop; on the pull chain.
