DISPLAY STAND.

The present inventionre-lates to a display stand and has for its prime object to provide a device which is especiallyeflicient in displaying a card, picture, postal and the like.

Another very important object of the invention is to provide a display device of this nature having a very simple and efficient construction, one which is reliable, strong, durable, inexpensive to manufacture, attraclive in appearance, light, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. 7

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In this display stand I contemplate the provision of a very simple structure which is made from a single sheet of material. This material may be any kind of metal or may be of other material such as glass, celluloid, and the like. The material from which the device is made does not form a part of the invention but do wish to emphasiZe that any suitable material may be utilized. The device is primarily designed tobe of rather small dimensions although the dimensions do not form a part of the invention. This matter of dimensions, however, is merely mentioned to bring out the utility of the device in supporting in displaying positions such small articles as postcards, snapshot photographs, and the' like.

Referring now to the drawing in detail it will be seen that in the present example of the invention the body 1 is of a disk formation having its center raised and substantially of a concave or convex formation as indicated at 2. The flange 3 of annular construction depends downwardly from the edge or periphery of the disk body 1 preferably at an obtuse angle therefrom so as to be inclined and terminates in a ring 4 disposed in parallelism with the disk body 1. This ring 4 forms the base upon which the device rests; This base may be placed on a table or any other suitable support and will sit firmly thereon. but the device is not easily toppled over.

The body 1 is provided with a pair of arcuate openings 5 which are formed in the manufacture of the device by striking from the body or cutting therefrom the arcuate shaped ears or card engaging member 6 which are bent upwardly at right angles from the body so as to be disposed adjacent to each other. Thus a card or other device to be displayed may be placed between the ears 6 as is indicated by the dotted line showing '7 in Figure 1. In the preferred embodiment of this invention I would use some resilient material such as spring metal or celluloid for instance and tension the ears 6 to frictionally engage the card or the like 7.

It will be noted that the ears 6 are formed by the provision of pairs of spaced concentric arcuate slits in thebase plate 1 concentric with and at opposite sides of the center of the base plate. Thus, the base plate is formed with the relatively large circular central portion 2 and the latter is spaced from and connected at opposite sides with the surrounding portion of the base plate 1 by narrow integral connections 2. It will. also be seen that the ears 6 are disconnected from said central portion 2 and the surrounding portion of the base plate 1, but integrally attached at their ends to the sides of the narrower connections 2*.

From the above description it will be seen that'I have devised a device having a novel and useful structure which attains all the objects enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that the device possesses a very simple structure 'which is efficient and effective in its operation and will be strong, durable, and reliable. The device is attractive in appearance and may be made light but yet will not be very easily toppled over when in use.

The embodiment of the invention which I have described in detail has been shown merely by way of example and it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

l. A display stantLof the character described comprising a base plate having a pair of ears stamped therefrom and bentto extend upwardly at right angles to the base plate and adapted to grippingly engage an article disposed therebetween with the ears engaging fiat against the sides of the article, said cars being formed by the provision of pairs of spaced slits in the base plate at opposite sides of the center of the latter, whereby the base plate is formed with a relatively large central portion spaced from and connected at opposite sides with the surrounding portion of the base plate by narrow integral connections and whereby the ears are dis-connected from said central and surrounding portions of the base plate and integrally attached at their ends to the sides of said narrow con nections.

2. A device like that set forth in claim 1, wherein said central portion of the base plate is of upwardly "dished form.

3. A device of the character described comprising a base plate having a pair of ears stamped therefrom and bent to extend upwardly at right angles to the base plate and adapted to grippingly engage an article disposed therebetween with the ears engaging flat against the sides of the article, said ears being formed by the PIOYiSbIl of pairs of spaced concentric arcuate slits in the base plate concentric with and at opposite sides of'the center of the latter, whereby the base plate is formed with a relatively large circular central portion spaced from and connected at opposite sides with the surrounding port on of the base plate by narrow integral connections, and whereby the ears aredis-connected from said central and surrounding portions of the base plate and integrally attached at their ends to the sides of'said narrow connections.

a. A device like that set forth in claim 3 wherein said circular central portion is of raised concavo-convex formation.
