I. A. FARGO.
HOP PIGKERS BOX.
No. 249,915. Patented NOV. 22,1881.
WITNESSES M INVENTOR:
A N ZM K NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK A. FARGO, OF PINE WOODS, NEW YORK.
HOP-PICKERSBOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 249,915, dated November 22, 1881,
(ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, FREDERICK A. FARGO, of Pine Woods, in the county of Madison and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hop-Pickers Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
Myinvention consists ota hop-pickers measure or box having such construction that it may be easily taken apart for stowing away in small space and for transportation, and easily set up for use.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which the figure is a perspective view of my improved hop-pickers box as it appears when set up for use, several parts being broken away to clearly show the construction.
The box is inclosed by the side boards, A A, and the end boards, B B, and it is divided into four equal compartments by the boards cat and the transverse board I). The board I) is held in place between the side boards, A A, in the ways formed by the cleats c c and c 0, secured to said boards, and the boards a and a are held in place between similar cleats, d d and d d, and c e and e e, secured to the end boards of the box, and upon the transverse board I) in the center, as clearly shown in the drawing. The end boards, B B, of the box are held in place between the side boards between the cleats f ff f and g g and g g, which are secured to the side boards at the ends, as shown.
The boards B are re-enforced on the middle of back by two vertical cleats, which may be undercut on one side and placed apart at the top, so that they may be readily manipulated in removing or putting in the boards.
The bottom board, D, of the box is provided upon its under side with the cleats h h, h h, and h h in sets, which project at both ends past the sides of the box, and these cross-pieces are perforated at their ends to receive the removable pins 7'. Upon the outside of the side boards, A A, are secured the standards F F and F F, near the ends of the boards, and the standards H H in the center of the boards. These standards are formed at their lower ends with hooks, as shown at i, for engaging with the pins j in the said bottom cross-pieces. The upper ends of the standards H H are formed with the tenons i i, upon which the correspondingly-mortised cross-plate l fits, and this cross-plate is adapted to be secured in place across the top of the box by the pins 8 s, which pass through perforations in the ends of the plate and the tenons. The posts F F H are notched near the lower end, on the inside, to receive the pins j.
In setting up the box the notches of the standards F F and H are to be placed upon the pins j and the end boards, B B, put in place between the side boards. The side boards are then to be drawn together and secured firmly in place by the nuts on the tie-rods L L, which rods pass through the ends of the side boards, B B, as shown. The transverse division-board b is then tobe put in place, and then the division-boards a and a are to be put in, and finally the cross-plate I is to be put on, which completes the setting up of the box.
It will be understood that in order to take the box apart it is only necessary to take off the plateI and remove the rods L L. This being done, the boards may be piled one upon another, and thus the box may be stowed away in very small space.
Having thus i'ully described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The hop-pickeis box or measure, made substantiall y as herein described, consisting of the bottom board, D, provided with the projecting cleats h h h, the side boards, A A, provided with side cleats, and the notched standards F, F, and H, the end boards, B B, transverse board b, the cleats on the ends B and partition I), division-boards a and a, tie-rods L L,
and the cross-plate I, the cleats h h It" being provided with the pins j, as and for the purposes set forth.
FREDERICK ALBERT FARGO.
