In the present instance, the mounting or. base plate I is disclosed as being substantially elongated, but it will be obvious that this plate can be of any desired shape or configuration. A

A roll-supporting or carrying member 8, perhaps best shown in Fig.3 of the drawings, is made up of strap metalor other suit-' able sheet material, with the sidebar portions 9 and I 0 extending from a middle crossbar portion I I, and with its extremities I2 and I3 bent in wardly in overlapping relation. The extremity I2 of the member8 has an, opening thereth'rou'gh to revolubly receive the spindle 6, and the extrmity I3 has a registering opening 14' bi s lightly elongated shape also adapted to receive the spindle 6, while the middle or crossbar portion I I is provided with a bearing opening I5 substan' tially aligned with the openings in the extremities I2 and I3, and adapted to revolubly receive the outer end of the bearing spindle 6. The" middle or crossbar portion I I of the roll supporting or carrying member 8 has the outer edges thereof cut away or bent in or otherwise formed to reduce the widthof this portion intermediate the side bars 9 and III, as indicated at I6. The side bar portion 9 has a stop I! extending inwardly therefrom, and this stop may bem'a'de or applied in any desired manner. In the present instance, I have illustrated the stop I! as being a portion of the side bar member 9 which is out along three sides and is then turned inwardly substantially at right angles. The side bar portion I0 is provided with a latch .p'awl I8, which pawl has its detent face toward the extremity I3, and while this pawl can be made or applied in any desired manner, I have found it convenient to cut on three sides of a portion of the metal of the side bar I0, and to bend this tab inwardly at an acute angle, thus providing an inclined outer face over which a locking portion can'ride to pass and catch over the detent end ofthe latchpawl- A ,A locking member I9, also preferably made of:
a piece of strap metal, or other suitable material, is bent to substantially rectangular form with the side bar portions 28 and 2| extending in substantially parallel relation from the middle crossbar portion 22, and with the extremities 23 and 24 turned inwardly in overlapping relation. These overlapped extremities have openings 25 aligned therethrough and adapted to slidably and rotatably receive the bearing spindle 6. The locking member I9 has the side bar portions 29 and 2| of such width and the crossbar portion 22 of such dimensions that when this member is assembled with the roll supporting or carrying member 8, the extremities 23 and 24 of the locking member I9 can be sprung apart and over the crossbar portion II of the member 8, and the side bar portions '20 and 2 I will fit and slide within the reduced or recessed portion at I6. In assembling the parts, the extremities 23 and 24 of the locking member I9 are located on the inner side of the stop I1, and in such relation that as th'elocking' member I9 is moved inwardly by pressure exerted upon the middle or crossbar portion 22, the extremities 23 and 24 will ride overthe inclined face of pawl I8 and will be in position to be engaged against return movement by the abutting'fac'e of this locking or latch pawl I8. Since the side bar portion In of the roll-support ing member 8 ismore or less flexible and r'esilient, this side bar portion will normally resiliently move out to a slightly angular position, as illustrated in Fig. 3, which movement is accommo dated by the elongation of the opening I4, and the latch or locking pawl I8 will thusbe normally resiliently held in a' position where it will not en.

A bearing collar or sleeve 28 is then placed upon the bearing spindle 6, and the spindle is then moved endwise through registering openings 25 of the overlappedextremities 23 and 24 of the locking member I9, which member I9 is assembled with the roll-supporting or carrying member 8, and the parts are then shoved on to the bearing spindle 6 so that the end of this spindle is received through bearing opening I5 in'the crossbar portion II' of the roll-supporting inember 8. Following such assembly, the bearing collar or sleeve 28 is moved inwardly upon the .-bearing spindle 6 to a position where this hearing collar or sleeve will hold the parts in the de- -sired position and rotatablyupon the bearing spindle 6. Alocking key or bar 3!, which is conveniently made of substantially the same length as the ,crossbar member 26, has a transverse width somewhat greater than the distance between the inner ,faces of .the side bar portions 20and 2| of the locking member [9, on the inner side of the iniddlecrossbar'portion 22 thereof. Since thereis possibility that the locking ey or bar 3| might be removed by' a person other than an authorized attendant desiring to place a new roll of paper, I provide a flexible member, such as chain 34, or a cable or other suitable member not readily broken or damaged,a nd ,li connect this chain or flexible member at o'neend, as at 3 5, .to one end of the crossbar member2'6, the other end of the chain or flexible member 34 being connected, as at 36, to one endfof the locking key or bar 3|. The chain or flexible member 34 is made sufiiciently long toextend substantially obliquely across the outer [portion of the roll of paper, as illustrated in,Fig. 2 Io:f the drawings, when the locking key or barj3l is in the locked roll-retaining position, and when the locking keyror bar is removed from this position, the chain or flexible member 34' serves to suspend and tether the locking key or bar and to guard against loss or unauthorized removal thereof. v As the bars 26 and 3| extend radially substantially at right angles, the chain or flexible mem .ber 34 extends across the outer side of the roll substantially obliquely with respect to the. axis of rotation, and since the chain or flexible'menifher is more or less loose on the surface of the roll, a person may readily grasp the end of the strip of paper and unreel the same; however, .upon each complete revolution of the rollthe chain or flexible member 34 will cause the paper to tear off at the usual lines of perforation, ,or at the line of the chain or flexible member, and consequently it will not be possible for anyone to pull off or unreel a great length of paper. Thus, it will be seen that'with my improved structure a considerable saving in paper will result, since when aroll of paper is locked in place it is impossible for anyone to remove the roll as an entirety; since the locking means can -;be released only when the complete roll, has been exhausted; and, at the same time no one can unreel any considerable length of paper; since the chain or flexible member 34 will cause sev,-
erance of the paper transversely on each revo lution of the roll. In the unlocked positionf the 'parts,"these locking flanges 43 and 44 are adapted to be engaged with the inner sides of the trans- "verse lockingbars 49 and 4|,- by springing the "arrns bf the locking member 42 inwardly and then moving this member longitudinally out- ?wardly; and a stop isprovided at on the locke ing'member to limit outward endwise movement lofthis locking member'so that the lockingflanges 43"and 44'will'neverbe pulledoutwardly beyond the outer edges of the transverse locking 'bars 40 and 4|. The remaining portionsof the structure and mounting are substantially the fsa'meas"hereinbefore described in' detail with "the'ifirstjdisclosed embodiment-of my invention, and'itwill' be seen that a locking'key or bar can "beinse'rted' through the'opening of the looped "outer' end of the locking'member 42 after a roll qof paper has been fitted in place, and then inward pressure upon the locking member 42 will cause the, locking flanges 43 and 44 toTideforwardly over the inner' faces of the transverse locking bars and 4| and to' spring out into the loci;- .ing: position. With' the m'o'dified form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 14, 15, and 16, the roll-supporting member 46 can 'be' substantially the-same asdescribedin connection with the showing in Figs. From'theforegoing, it will be seen that I-have provided a toilet paper roll holder-of simple and inexpensive oonstruction*so-'-sturdy and: durable that it will not be'likely to -be'--dis'placed' from its mountingor be dismembered or dismantled or damaged except by such force =asmay-require the employment' 0f tools-or other heavyinstrur'neiitalities and, that the device is 0f suchconstfiuction that its use will result' in economy-bf --8 Lpape'r' sinceI-it is impossible to remove aroll of paper as anentirety from the holder, and=-it is-firnr'iossible to unrbll' or withdraw longlalengths --or paper. 7
While I haveherfeinshownand described'only certain specific embodiments of my invention, and have 1 suggested: :only certain other possible adaptationsg it will-be appreciated that=inany changesand va-r'iations can be madein theform, 10 -construction, arrangement and assembly of the parts, -Jwithout departing from the 1 spirit and -scope of my invention. A toilet paper roll holder comprising a mounting spindle, means tosecuresaid spindle upon a supporting portion, a paper roll receiving means revolvable on said spindle, and a flexible member carried by the meanson the spindle and extending substantially obliquely across the outer side of the roll.

A toilet paper roll holder comprising a mounting plate having a shank extending from one side and a bearing spindle portion extending from the'otherside,-a looped roll supporting member rotatably mounted on the spindle, a cross-bar extending transversely at the inner end of said looped member to serve as a stop for a roll of paper placed endwise on said looped member, a second looped member also carried by the spindle and the first looped member and endwise movable with respect thereto, a cross-bar insertable transversely through the outer portion of the second looped member to prevent removal of a roll of paper placed upon the first looped member, and internal locking means engageable between the first and second looped members when said second looped member is moved inwardly, whereby said second looped member and the cross-bar associated therewith are held in an assembled and locked relation.

A toilet paper roll holder comprising a mounting plate having a shank extending from one side and a bearing spindle portion extending from the other side, a roll supporting member constituting an elongated strap-like portion having a substantially rectangular form with its extremities overlapped at one end and being provided with openings in the overlapped extremities receiving the mounting spindle, a cross-bar disposed at the inner end of the rectangular member and extending laterally on opposite sides of and adjacent to the inner end of the spindle, a second substantially rectangular member having its ends overlapped at one end and provided with openings receiving the spindle loosely whereby the second member is endwise movable with respect to the roll supporting member, means coacting between the rectangular members limiting outward'movement of the second member, a cross-bar removably fitted within the loop of the outer end of the second member, and means interengaging between the two members when the second member is moved inwardly to dispose the cross-bar thereof adjacent to the end of a roll of paper fitted on the first member, whereby the parts are locked to retain a roll of paper against displacement and removal.

A toilet paper roll holder comprising a mounting plate having a shank extending from one side and a bearing spindle portion extending from the other side, a roll supporting member constituting an elongated strap-like portion having a substantially rectangular form with its extremities overlapped at one end and being provided with openings in the overlapped extremities receiving the mounting spindle, a cross-bar disposed through the rectangular member and extending laterally on opposite sides of and adjaa a a cent to the inner end of the spindle, a second substantiallyrectangular member having its ends overlapped at one end and provided with openings receiving the spindle loosely whereby the second member is endwise movable with respect to the roll supporti'ng'member, means coacting between the. rectangular members limiting outward movement of the second member, a crossbar removably fitted within the loop of the outer endjbf the'isecond member,. means interengaging between the two members when the second memberis movedinwardly to dispose the crossbar thereof adjacent to the end of a roll of paper fittedon'the'first m'ember, whereby the parts are locked to retain a roll of paper against displacement and removal, the cross-bar at the inner end of the roll an'd the locking bar at the other end of the roll being disposed to extend laterally at substantially an angle of-90 degrees apart,
and a flexible member connected between an end of the cross-bar andan end of the locking bar and thus "disposed substantially obliquely around 10. A toilet paper roll holder comprising a spindle, means to mount said spindle on a wall, a roll mountin member rotatable on said spindle, a cross-bar on said spindle at the inner end of the roll mounting member limiting inward movement of a roll of paper, a substantially U-shaped locking member endwise movably mounted on said roll mounting member and presenting a looped cross-bar portion at its outer end, a locking key bar having its middle portion of reduced width insertable through the looped end of the locking member when the locking key or bar is disposed diagonally and adapted to receive the side portions of the locking member to retain the key in place when the key is fitted with the reduced portion thereof in substantially a parallel plane with respect to the looped end of the looking member, and interfitting locking and detent portions on the parts of the roll mounting member and the locking member retaining the looking member in inward disposition when the looking member having the locking key or cross-bar therein is moved inwardly.
11. A toilet paper roll holder comprising a spindle, means to mount said spindle on a wall, a roll mounting member rotatable on said spindle, a cross-bar on said spindle at the inner end of the roll mounting member limiting inward movement of a roll of paper, a substantially U-shaped locking member endwise movably mounted on said roll mounting member and presenting a looped cross-bar portion at its outer end, a looking key bar having its middle portion of reduced width insertable through the looped end of the locking member when the locking key or bar is disposed diagonally and adapted to receive the side portions of the locking member to retain the key in place when the key is fitted with the reduced portion thereof in substantially a parallel plane with respect to the looped end of the looking member, interfitting locking and detent portions on the parts of the roll mounting member and the locking member retaining the locking member in inward disposition when the locking member having the locking key or cross-bar therein is moved inwardly, and a flexible member such as a chain connected at one end of the crossbar and at one end of the locking key or bar to thus be disposed substantially transversely across the outer side of a roll of paper as mounted upon the holder, and serving to tether and prevent
