Application August 14, 1947', Serial No. 768,660
' 3 Claims. (01-... 27-10;)"
This invention relates to novel dress waist and dress skirt ensemble for women, and the primary object of the invention is to provide such an ensemble in which simple and efiicient means is provided to support the skirt from the waistline of the wearer and at a higher length when the wearer is in a standing position, and to sup- :port the skirt from the hips below the waist-line of the wearer and at a lower length so that the skirt will not climb above said higher length when the wearer assumes a sitting position.
A further object is to provide an ensemble of the above kind in which the supporting means embodies waist encircling .bands carried by the waist and the skirt, the waist encircling band of the skirt being adjustable :as to girth and coacting with the waist encircling band of the waist to support the skirt at the higher length.
The exact nature of the present invention will become apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the ensemble as it appears while bein worn with the skirt supported from the waist-line of the wearer and at the higher length;
Figure 2 is a view somewhat similar to Figure 1 showing the skirt supported from the hips below the waist-line of the wearer and at the lower length;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the-waist;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the skirt;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary vertical section taken on line 5-5 of Figure 1; and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical section taken on line -66 of Figure 2.
Figure '7 is a plan view of one of the bands.
Figure 8 is an enlarged view of the ends of one of the bands.
Referring in detail to the drawings, B is a ladys dress waist of the blouse or any desired type and construction, said waist having a metallic body encircling band 5 secured on the inside thereof slightly below the waist-line. The band 5 may be formed of spring wire and bent to provide hook and eye means 6 at its meeting ends to fasten it about the body of the wearer. To secure the band 5 in place, a cloth strip 7 may be disposed over said band and sewed to the waist. An opening 8 is provided in the waist to facilitate insertion or removal of band 5 and connection or disconnection of its ends.
which is disposed a metallic body encircling band H]. Al; the sides of its upper portion, the skirt is split, and the edge portions of the skirt along the splits are overlapped as at I l and adjustably connected by buttons 12 and button-holes 13 so that the upper edge portion of the skirt may be adjusted as to girth. The band Ill is formed of spring wire and bent to provide a hook l4 and eyes l5 at its meeting ends to similarly adjust said band and fasten it about the body of the wearer. An opening 1 6 is provided in the skirt to facilitate insertion or removal of band I0 and connection or dis-connection of its ends.
When the ends of band H] are connected, its inside diameter is less than the outside diameter of band 5, so that by disposing band In at the waist-line and above band 5 as shown in Figures 1 and 5, the skirt will be supported at the higher length as desired when the wearer is in a standing position. B disconnecting the ends of band Hi, the skirt may be lowered to the lower length and supported from the hips below band 5 as shown in Figures 2 and 6. When the latter is done, the skirt will not climb above the hi her length when the wearer assumes a sitting position.
The buttons 12 engaged in proper ones of the buttonholes I 3 will provide the proper girth at the upper edge of the skirt so as to insure support of the latter from the hips when the ends of band H] are disconnected. When the sk rt is raised and the ends of band I0 are connected, the girth of the skirt at its upper edge is reduced so as to support the skirt from the waist-line. the band 5 preventing downward movement of hem 9 and band I0.
From the foregoing descri tion it is believed that the construction, manner of use and Pdvantages of the present en emble will be readi y understood and appreciated by t o e ski l d in the art. Minor changes are contempl t d. such as fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the claimed as new is:
1. A dress waist and dress skirt ens m e or comprising a dress wa st of the type which extends a short dist nce below the waist l ne, a metallic body enci c ing band secured on the in side of said waist slightly below the wa st-l ne. said band having means at its meet ng ends to fasten it about the body of the wearer, a dress skirt having a hem at the to and a metallic bodv encircling band disposed in said hem, said skirt being invention, what is S is a dress skirt having a hem 9 at the 0D in split at the sides of its upper portion and provided with means along the edges of the splits to connect the portions at opposite sides of the latter and adjust said upper portion of the skirt as to girth, the second named band having means at its meeting ends to adjust the same as to girth and to fasten it about the body of the wearer, the inside diameter of said second named band. being less than the outside diameter of the first named band when the ends of said first and second named bands are connected, so that by disposing the second named band at the waist-line and above the first named band, the skirit will be supported at a higher length, the girth of the skirt at the top being such as to cause the skirt to be supported from the hips below the first named band when the ends of the second named band are disconnected and the skirt is lowered to a lower length.
