For the purpose of providing a rigid under framework for the table,.it is contemplated that the leg stands 41 be braced and supported directly by means of such devices as tie bar 44. The rigid legs I5 and I E are also bracedA byrtie4 bars. .The i rigid legs I5 and I6 are braced to leg stands 41 by tie rod 48, which has oppositely pitched threads .45 atopposite ends thereof whichY are tapped into the tie bars respectively at 46. This tie `rod 48 may freely be adjustedVV or removed by turning it, and to' this end a'lpolygonal wrench hold 48a is providedbetween the ends of the tie rod.v Secured overlappingly upon theV top I and lextensible panel 26 thereof is a continuous corrugated quilt 43.` v The slidable bracing membeig composed of the bars I8, I9 and25, when closed lies inside of the table or bench proper. As these coupler arms are thus urged forwardly the lower pivotedY ends of these arms rock the legs 32 and -33 upon their lower hinges I2a and I3a tilting them at an'angle, which action takes place without the necessity of the coupler arms turning upontheir pivot pins 30 because the two-point bearing of the roller and pinion on opposite sides of the'track-rack, in each case, assures a perpen- ,dicular disposition: of'these couplers as the -pinions travel along in mesh with the racks. This is shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. But, as the legs 32 and 33 move forwardly they also move downwardly, and in doing so the Yrollers 35 will pull down upon the tracks 36, and, therefore, pull down also upon the false top II to which the tracks are secured. This tilts both the top I 0 and II andv bracing member I9, which has been extended .to support the panel 26 in extended position, so the entire table topY structure inclines downwardly, hanging down upon its hinges I2- I3. In fact the entire length of the table, consisting of top IU and front panel 26 in extended position and rear panel 21a also in extended position, will be tilted. As the table assumes such tilt or inclination, the head of the occupant will be lowered gradually to the desired degree of incline, and the feet will be elevated with respect thereto.V This will usually relieve strain on and fatigue of muscles, nerves and internal organs of the body of the occupant and tend to induce correct posture. At the end of the rest period, rota'- tions of the pinions is reversed so that the table top may be restored 'to initial horizontal position, and the occupant may rest in such position, if desired.

In the modified form of our invention, shown in Figures 4 and 5, the same results are accomplished in a dilerent manner. Here the device not only servesthe purpose of an inclinable posture table, also when not used for this purpose may be used as a hassock. The bottoni hassock section is wedge-shaped, being a rectangular enclosure with a bottom and closed top. The top 43 constitutes an Yinclined table top supported upon the wedgeshaped sides 50 so that the rear part 53 is highest and the front part 52 lowest, in height. The corrugated cushion cover 5I covers the part 43. The other hassock section is also wedge-shaped, whose top `55, when this section is closed in surmounted relation upon the lower hassock section, becomes its bottom when the sections assume the open position, as at 1I, 1Ia, shown in Figure 4. The upper hassock section tapers to a thin edge 51, has the sides 59 and highest part at its wall 58, which latter part, at its under edge, is hinged operatively to a pintle 54 so that this section may open and close upon the under section. The inclined top portion 56 of the last described hassock section is designated 5B. When both sectionsV assume the position .where one is extended in front of the other with confronting innerrparts 52 and 58, as in Figure 4,'there will be a .continuously beveled surface and wedge shaped structure presented to view, the top inclination of one section being continued in pitch onto the other section. The guide space 64 is formed by spacing a panel Ibelow top inclined panel- 63, so an extensible panel 65 may ride in and out of this space. Otherwise, the use and operation of the device is identical with what has already been described.

To close the two hassock sections, the narrower of the two wedge-shaped ones is folded up on its hinged pintle 54, which action also folds the .corrugated cushion upon itself and closes the one section cover-like upon the other, after which Vthe hook pivoted freely at 6E upon one section, is caught around the pin 68 on the other section so the top sections may be closed, one upon the other. The straps 18 are xedly secured at their upper ends and serve as a means in assisting in lowering and raising the body.

We claim:

A device of the kind described comprising a frame including a pair of vertically extending fixed members at one end thereof, a table top pivotally mounted at one end thereof on the top oi' said members, a pair of collapsing members pivotally mounted at the bottom thereof on the other end of said frame, Ia gear rack secured to the bottom side of said table top and spaced downwardly therefrom, a lcoupling member pivotally mounted on the top of eaeh of said collapsing members, including a pinion member engaging said gear rack anda roller member disposed above said gear rack and in rolling engagement therewith, and means for rotating said pinion member 6 REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the le of this patent:
