Patented Aug. 2, 1949 rr! CE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved brassire and one of its objects is to provide a brassire with means for bracing the back of the wearer, so that the tendency to collapse the back and congest the bust will be corrected,
and a more healthful posture will be maintained invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view, showing the garment applied to a wearer, indicated in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view thereof.
Referring to the drawings which show the design of a finished product, designates the rear wall of the brassiere, which is formed with shoulder strap extensions 6 and 1. The extension 6 is formed on a panel or section 8, which is provided with a tubular strap or strip ll, having a stiffening brace of steel or whalebone enclosed thereby, and which is disposed in line with the normal tensional pull developed on the shoulder strap extension 6. The shoulder strap ,extension I is carried by a panel which is provided with a tubular strap or strip l2, in which a stiffening brace of steel or whalebone is inserted. This brace is disposed in line with the normal tensional pull developed upon the strap extension I. These two panels are connected to each other by means of an intermediate strip I3 of elastic fabric, which is united at its side edges by the seams I4 and I5 to said panels. An elastic supporting device I6 is connected to the lower end of the tubular strap l I, and this has the usual connection with an under garment of the user, so that tension will be maintained upon both ends of the brace. The tubular strap I2 is similarly connected to an elastic supporter I1.
To the panel -8 which carries the stiffening brace and enclosing tubular strap II the panel This panel includes the lower elastic fabric section 2| and 2 the upper non-elastic section 22, which is united thereto by means of the V-shaped stitching 23. This panel i9 carries an edge strip 24 which is provided with a series of hook eyes 25.
To the panel 26, which carries the tubular strap i2, the bust enclosing front wing or wall 21 is connected by means of the side panel 28. This side panel includes the lower elastic 29 and the upper non-elastic section 30, which are united to each other by means of the V-shaped stitching 3!. The front wing is composed of tailored sections, which include the bottom or lower horizontal section 32, having maximum resistance to stretching, and which may be a double layer fabric, the single layer intermediate fabric section 33, and the upper cross strip 34 of lace edging, having a self fitting or covering action.
The front bust covering wing is provided with shoulder strap extensions 35 and 36, which are connected to the shoulder strap extensions 6 and l by means of the elastic straps 38 and 3G. The free edge of the front wing is provided with a strip 40, which carries a series of hook and eye hooks 4|, designed to have coupling engagement with the eyes 25. The front wing is also provided with elastic strap supporters 42 and 43, which are disposed in line with the shoulder straps.
Because of this arrangement and construction the stiffening braces, which extend high up against the back of the user, are held in close supporting engagement with the users back, so that the torso of the user is braced against such deformation which results in a bulging back and a collapsed or congestedbust.
The effect in actual service use is to elevate the bust and straighten the back, so that a natural and comfortable posture is maintained, and fatigue is reduced, with the result that the wearer appears more attractive.
It is understood that various changes in the details of onstruction, their combination and arrangement, may be made in carrying out the invention, defined by the claim herein set forth.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A brassiere having a back wall and a front wall tailored to support and fit the bust of the wearer, said back wall comprising alternate elastic and fabric sections, the fabric sections extending vertically and spaced by an elastic section and each fabric section having an elastic section outwardly of the same, stiffening braces and means for securing the same to the respective fabric back wall sections and elastic shoulder straps connecting said fabric back wall sections to the front wall 3 4 and disposed in line with the stiffening braces REFERENCES CITED so that the tensiona] puns W111 be dlrectly The following references are of record in the plied to said braces and whereby the braces may file of this patent:
