SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,732, dated September 27, 1881.

This invention relates to certain improvements in fence-posts; and it has for its objects to provide certain means whereby the posts may be supported and adjusted vertically and laterally, as more fully hereinafter specified. Figure 1 represents a perspectwe view showing our invention complete, and Fig. 2 a detached detailed perspective view.
The letter A indicates a base, constructed preferably of metal, supporting an upright, B, constructed of a fiat strip of metal, bent as indicated at C, so as to form a flat bearing for the fence-post D. The base is slotted longitudinally at E, in which slot the lower end of the fence-post D is loosely secured. The-said erally or vertically with respect to said standard and securely held in such adjusted position. The base A may be secured in any desired position to any suitable support.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
In combination with the base and its standard, constructed as described, the standard being provided with a horizontal slot and the base with a longitudinal slot, the slotted fencepost setting in the slot in thebase,and the slide secured to the post by means of a clampingscrew passing through the slots in the post and standard and the clampiugnut on said screw, whereby the post may be adjusted verticall y and laterally, substantially as specified.
