GLD. JAQUES. HORSE TAIL TIE.
Patented Sept. 13, 18 81.
INVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS. Phwwmhokn hu, Wnshinglc'k D c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES D. JAQUES, CURTISVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND FREDERICK B. JAQUES, OF SAME PLACE.
HORSE-TAIL TIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,063, dated September 13, 1881.
Application filed June 28, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES D. JAQUES, of Curtisville, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Horse-Tail Tie, of which the following is a specification.
The object of m yim'ention is to provide a device by means of which horses tails, after they have been braided or twisted and folded, may
be easily and quickly secured for holding and protecting them from mud.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my invention. Fig.2 is an elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken on linear or of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4is a similar section, the parts being shown unfolded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The clasp or tie A is preferably composed of the hinged parts a b c, asshown in Fig. 4,which are preferably cast of any suitable metal and plated. The part chas secured to it the ornamental face-piece c1,which is provided with the small hole 01, through which the button 6 upon 2 5 the outer edge of the piece a is adapted to pass for clasping the tie around the horses tail.
Instead of making the clasp of three hinged parts, as shown in Fig. 4, the same may be made of only two hinged parts, as shown in 0 Fig. 3, the face-piece daiid the slot and button being the same. Instead of making the clasp of cast metal, I may make it of spring metal, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In every case I propose to form the opening f across the back of the clasp, so that the band (preferably of rubber) or some tying material may be used to bind the tail by wrapping around the projections h h upon the face-piece d, to assist in bind- (No model.)
ing the tail securely. If the cord of rubber or similar material, g, is used, the face-piece need 40 not be permanently secured to that part c or to the clasp at all. It need only be provided with pins 11 i, as shown in Fig. 1, which project through and from the under side and enter suitable holes in the edges of the ends of the 5 clasp, to guide the face-piece to its proper place and hold the parts of the clasp while the cord gis being tied or placed upon the projections h It.
In use the tail is simply to be braided and folded or twisted and folded, and the clasp 5o opened and placed around the tail at the ends of the hairs, and the ends of the clasp secured together either by the cord, as in Figs. 1 and 2, or by the button and slot, as in Figs. 3 and 4. The cord maybe used with the form of 5 clasp shown Figs. 3 and 4, if desired, as it assists in binding the tail securely and prevents danger of loss of the clasp.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A device forclasping horses tails to protect them from mud, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of a divided ring formed with the slotf, in combination with the face-piece d, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The clasp A, formed of the hinged pieces a b 0, in combination with the face-piece d, provided with the hole d, the hinged part a being provided with the button 6, substantially as described.
CHARLES DAVIS J AQUES.
