3 Claims.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in table structures and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved collapsible table structure which is quickly and readily assembled or disassembled in a convenient manner.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a hinged panel or table top and embodying novel and improved means for supporting and lockin the same in a substantially horizontal position when in use.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a table structure that is extremely neat and attractive in appearance and small and compact in structure.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a collapsible table structure that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present table structure and showing the same collapsed or in unused position;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the present table structure and showing the same in position for use;

Figure 3 is a side elevational view of Figure 1;

Figure 4 is a side elevational view of Figure 2 and showing the hinged panel in a partially raised position;

Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the hinged panel in a partially raised position;

Figure 6 is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 6-5 of Figure 5;

Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of the hinged panel that is used in conjunction with the present invention; and

Figure 8 is a view similar to Figure 6 and showing the hinged panel in a locked position.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral III represents the wheeled or movable support that is used in conjunction with the present, invention generally, and includes an upper wall I2, a lower wall I4, an intermediate wall I6 that is spaced parallel to the upper and lower walls I2 and I4 and a rear wall H.

A pair of spaced parallel side members or posts I8 and 20 are fixed to and support the walls I2, I4 and I6 in'their intended position, and auxiliary posts or

22 and 24 are disposed between the upper wall I2, the intermediate wall I6, and the bottom wall I4, and intermediate wall l6, respectively.

Obviously, any suitable number of walls may be employed to properly support books, vases, or the like, and the walls may be suitably colored or decorated to add to the attractiveness of the same. The walls I2, I4, and I6 are preferably provided with arcuate forward edges 26. However, any suitable shape may be employed without deviating from the scope of the present invention.

The numeral 28 represents a substantially semicircular anchor member, the lower straight, substantially horizontal edge 30 of which is hinged, as at 32, to one transverse edge 34 of a substantially rectangular panel or table top 35.

Guides 38 are secured to the longitudinal side edges 40 of the hinged panel 36 and are slidably received in vertical, channel-shaped slots 42 provided in the opposed, inner faces of the side members I8 and 20, as shown best in Figures 5, 6, and 7 of the drawings.

Secured to the under surface of the upper wall I2 and conforming to the shape thereof is a retaining wall 44 having an upwardly inclined rear edge 46.

The rear edge 48 of the upper wall I2 is provided with an elongated notch to form a longitudinal edge 50 and the under surface of the upper Wall I2 is notched, as at 52, to provide a channeled opening 54 between the upper wall I2 and retaining wall 44 that will receive the reduced transverse edge 56 of the hinged panel 36 when the latter is in a raised and substantially horizontal position.

The guide slots 42 are enlarged and rearwardly inclined at their upper ends 58 to permit the. extension or edge to engage the channeled opening 54.

Angulated stop plates 60 are fixed to the under surface of the hinged panel 36 and include inclined portions 62 that engage the inclined edge 46 of the retaining wall 44, and free portions 54 that bear against the lower face of the retaining wall 44 when the hinged panel 36 is raised.

In order to lock the hinged panel 36 in a raised and substantially horizontal position, there is provided a pivotal latch 66 having a hook portion 68 that will engage the shank portion of a conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it

is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description israccord 'v ingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however,- thateven though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the claimedlas new is:

1. Atab'le structure comprising a wheeled support having an upper substantially horizontal wall and a pair of spaced side members, an anchor member secured to a supporting structural element, a substantially rectangular panel hinged at one end to said anchor member, guide slots provided in said side members, guides carried by said panel slidably received in said slots, the under surface of said upper wall having an elongated notch, a reduced extension at the free end of said panel receivable in said notch forsupporting said panel coplanar with said upper wall, and means for locking said panel to said upper wall.
