Description
(No Model.) I
' G. M. MARTIN.
FRIABLE VESSEL FOR CONTAINING CHEMICALS IN FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.
No. 246,898. Patented Sept. 13,1881,
I l H UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES M. MARTIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE WASHINGTON FIRE EXTINGUISHER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF WASHINGTON,
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
FRIABLE VESSEL FOR CONTAINING CHEMICALS IN FIRE-EXTINGUISHERS.
SPECIFICATION forming 'part of Letters Patent No. 246,898, dated September 13, 1881.
Application filed February 10, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom ct may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES M. MARTIN, of the city and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Friable Vessels for Containing Chemicals in the Interior of Fire-Extinguishers; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my improved bottle in its supporting-stirrup. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on line as a: of Fig. 1.
The object of my invention is to provide a bottle or vessel to be placed within the interior of a fire-extinguisher to hold chemicals, and to be broken to discharge the chemicals, which shall be exceedingly friable and cheaply produced; and my invention consists in an elongated glass vessel or bottle having its upper part contracted abruptly, nearly approaching a right angle, to form the mouth of the vessel, and the bottom contracted in a truncated conical form, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, A is the ring of the I supporting-stirrup, having the suspension-rods B B and the supporting cross-bar (1, upon which rests the bottom of the bottle D. At its upper end the cylinder of the bottle is abruptly contracted nearly to a right angle at a a and themouth d formed. Near the lower end of the cylinder it is contracted from b to b in the shape of a truncated cone. In applying this bottle its bottom is placed through the ring A and rests upon cross-bar C, the ringA resting against the bottle about half-way between I) and b. Upon bringing a crushing strain down upon the mouth of this bottle it will be found to break Very easily at a and at the point where ring A touches the bottle between I) and b.
I find that the bottle constructed as described is certain in operation and of exceedingly-cheap production.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved chemical-holding vessel for fire extinguishers, consisting of the bottle D, abruptly contracted at a to form the mouth d, and contracted at its base from b to b in the shape 55 of a truncated cone, as set forth.
CHAS. M. MARTIN.
