NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD WILLIAMS, OF GRIFFIN, GEORGIA.
SHOWER-BATH ATTACl-l MENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,849, dated September 6, 1881.
Application filed J 11110 13, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD WILLIAMS, of Griffin, in the county of Spalding and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Shower-Bath Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a convenient portable showering device to be applied to any washing or bathing tub.
The invention consists of a pump provided with a clamp for securing it to the edge of the tub, and of a perforated pan or sprinkler and an upright pipe connecting the same with the pump, so that a person standing in the tub can operate the pump to force water up into the sprinkler, whence it will fall upon the operator.
The drawing represents a perspective elevation of the device applied to a tub.
In the drawing, A represents a tub for containing the water. B represents the pump, provided with a clamp, G, by means of which and a set-screw, D, passing through said clamp O, the pump B is secured in an upright position to the edge of the tub A, as shown. B is the pump-handle. The connecting-pipe E projects laterally about two inches from the pump-barrel B, and then is carried vertically upward to about twelve or fifteen inches above the head of a person standing in the tub A,
and then is bent at a right angle, and carries (No model.)
on its end a perforated pan or sprinkler, I centrally over the tub A.
The operator standing in the tub A, by grasping the pump-handle B and moving it up and 5 down, will force Water from said tub A up through the pipe E into the sprinkler F,whence said water will shower on the said operator.
This device is easy to transport and to apply, and can be used in any room without in- 0 convenience.
I am aware of the English Patent No. 9,747 of 1843, which shows a force-pump adapted to be supported upon a platform in the bottom of a tub; and I am also aware of the patent 5 of Dodge, No. 195,105, which shows a clamp composed of a U-shaped bar, through one arm of which passes a thumb-screw, and I therefore do not claim such; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let- 5o ters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, the force-pump B, provided with the pipe E, the sprinkler F, and the clamp 0, consisting of a horizontal arm having'two downwardly-projecting lugs, 55 and the set-screw D, whereby the pump is adapted to be attached to a tub, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
EDWARD WILLIAMS.
