This invention relates to toboggans the purpose being to provide a new and improved structure and relationship of parts having the general form of a toboggan, the snow contacting surface of which is provided with a longitudinal slot into which the snow may extend, due to the weight of the user, and thus tend to maintain the toboggan in a straight line as it is moved through the snow.

These and other objects and features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and the preferred form and structural relationship of the parts of a tobbogan embodying my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.

In the preferred form of the structure, the toboggan is formed of two parallel strips I and 2 preferably formed of wood and each bent upwardly at the forward end 3 as shown in Fig. 2. At the forward end of the two strips is a reinforcing member 4 secured to the upper surface thereof and apertures are provided therein to receive the cord 5 which is formed in a loop providing a terminal end portion 6 of a length to enable the rider to sustain himself in upright position as the toboggan is moved.

The two strips I and 2 are secured together in parallel relation by a cross strip I adjacent the forward end of the body and a similar strip 8 at the rear end thereof against which the feet of the user may be positioned when the user is facing one side or the other of the toboggan.

By means of the terminal portion 6 of the cord the rider is able to maintain himself in an erect position as the device moves down an inclined surface.

It is also pointed out that the looped end of the cord passes through the two apertures at the forward end of the toboggan equi-distantly spaced from the longitudinal center line thereof. These apertures enable the user to remain in an upright position as the tension of the cord on the forward end of the toboggan is applied on each side of the longitudinal center line thereof and therefore tends to hold the toboggan to movement in a straight line.

It is further pointed out that the toboggan may be made of four or more strips with the two central strips formed or so arranged as to provide a central slot which is an essential feature of my invention.

It will be realized from the foregoing that the device is simple and inexpensive in structure and unique in the form and relationship of parts as hereinbefore set forth.

Having thus briefly described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States is- A toboggan comprising a pair of sheets of suitable material and of equal width secured together in parallel relation and having an upturned forward end, the strips being of less width from a point beginning at the upturned portion and extending to the rear end thereof providing a central longitudinal slot, a cross bar at the rear end and a cross bar approximately at the point to the rear of the upturned end portions, the opposed edges of the sheets at a point adjacent the forward cross bar being formed to provide a central longitudinal slot opening through the rear end of the device, the cross bars supporting the strips from lateral displacement, and the slot into which the snow may extend providing a means tending to maintain the toboggan to movement in a straight line.
