Claims. 1
My invention relates to safety razors, having among its objects and advantages the provision of an improved razor structure to provide arrangements and facilities for: (l) clamp pressure on the blade to be applied heavily from the guard side of the blade, and at very close proximity to the cutting edge of the razor blade; (2) for quick and easy placement of the razor blade in the razor and the removal of the same therefrom; (3) for rapidly opening and closing the razor; and, (4) for suspending the razor blade in a separated anchored position for drying of the blade and other parts of the razor.

In the embodiment of the invention selected I5--I5 are positioned on the notched edges I4 in alineinent with each other, giving the effect of a straightaway ledge element which is employed to contact razor blade from guard side of the razor and very near to the cutting edge of the razor blade. The guard I3 is provided with Notched edges I4 are protwo hooked lugs lli-I6, Figure l. The hooked lugs IIS-I6 are fixedly attached to the guard I3, said hooked lugs being located one at either end of the guard I3. The hooked lugs IS-IB are of flat shape and of proper thickness to permit slidable entrance of the hooked lugs I6--I6 into the narrow slot of a suitable safety razor blade. The hook ends Ill-I8 of the hooked lugs I6-I6 are positioned to extend in opposite directions, one to the other.
The guard I3 is provided with usual round opening 20, Figure 1. The guard is provided with two notches 22-22, located one at either side of the round opening 20 of the guard I 3.
A tubular stem 24, Figures 1 and 2, is provided. Tubular stem 24 is xedly attached by its upper end to the convex side of the guard I3. Said tubular stem 24 is provided with two oppositely positioned channels 25-25, Figures 1, 2 and 12.
lotted channels 25-25 are arranged inside the tubular stem 24 and extend longitudinally therein. Channels 25--25 are so positioned in the tubular stem 24 as to be alined with the notched openings 22-22, Figure l. Tubular stem 24 is provided with a stepped bore 21, Figure 2. Diameter of the bore 2'! in that part of the bore next the guard I3, is reduced. Left hand threading is provided in the intermediate part of the bore 21. The lower end of the tubular stem 24 is provided with a lipped edge 26, Figures 1, 2, 9, 10 and 11.
An operating member, Figures 3 and 4, is provided. The operating member comprises a cylindrical body having a small upper cylindrical portion 3l, and a large intermediate cylindrical portion 33, and a lower knob 34. The small cylindrical portion 3l is provided with right hand threading 30, and the large cylindrical portion 33 is provided with left hand threading 32. The cylindrical body is provided with a bore 35, said bore 35 extending longitudinally into the cylindrical body, through the knob-end thereof. The bore 35 is intersected at one side by an oblong square opening 36, said oblong square opening 36 being out into the side of the cylindrical body portion 33 thereof.
An abutment member, Figure 5, is provided. The abutment member comprises a cylindrical body 3T; a flat spring 38, and an oblong square shaped body 39. The cylindrical body 31 is attached by one of its ends to one end of the flat spring 38, and the oblong square shaped body 39 is attached by one of its ends to the other end of the flat spring 38.
A blade clamp member, Figures 6, 7 and 8, is provided. Blade clamp member comprises a clamp plate 40, and a cylindrical body 4l, said cylindrical body lll having one of its ends xedly attached to the clamp plate lll). Clamp plate 40 is provided with two rectangular openings 152-42, Figures 6 and 12. Cylindrical body 4l is provided with two flanges i3-d3, said flanges 43-43 being formed on the cylindrical body 4l, located onopposite sides thereof, and extending longitudinally therewith, The flanges #i3-433 are provided with ovalled enlarged portions G-ML Figures 6, '7 and 12. |The unattached end of the cylindrical body fil is provided with an inner bore 45, Figure 8, said bore ll being provided with right hand threading.
Connected relationship of the members is effected by entering abutment block member, Figure 5, into the bore 35 of the operating member, Figure e, and entering the operating member into the bore 2'! ci the tubular'stem 2li Figure 1; pressing abutment block' down, and turning the ltnob .lllf to left; The razor is then in position to beY connected in operational relationship with the blade clamp member, with the operating member, in ruil projected position, ready to receive the razor blade, which may be Slidably placed over thev hooked lugs lie-lb, Figure 1. When the blade has been placed over the hooked lugs l-i the blade clamp member, Figure d, is entered through the round opening of the razor blade and into the bore il? through the round opening oi the guard i3 when the razor is in position of Figures 11 and i2. The knob a'll may then be turned to the right thereby connecting the blade clamping member to the operating member, as shown in Figure 12 with the threaded portion 3Q entering the threaded bore l5 of the cylindrical body lll, thus drawing the clamping member downward upon the guard of the razor into full clamped position, as in Figure 9.
In position of Figure 9 razor is ready for use. After using, razor is released from clamped osition as in Figure 9 by turning the knob 3d to the left which drives the operating member in direction oi the guard i3, and drives the clamp plate member in direction away from the guard i3; ovalled enlarged portions lil-dd of the flanges dii-d3 contact the edges of the razor blade in the narrow slot of the razor blade, and the razor blade is carried in direction away from the guard i3 until it abuts the hooks iii-lil of the hooked lugs ifi-lli, and simultaneously with these movements the abutment block 39 arrives at and a'buts the lip on the edge 25 of the tubular stem 2li. The razor is then in anchored suspended position as Figure 10, ready for putting away to dry.` When desired to use again, the clampingv member is drawn to the clamped position of Figure 9 by turning the knob ill to the right. When desired to change the blade or to disconnect the parts of the razor the clamp member is raised to the position of Figures l1 and 12 by pressing down the abutment block 3Q and turning the knob 3d to the left until the clamping member is disconnected from the operating member.
The distance between the ends oi the hooks i3-ll ofthe hooked lugs l-l, Figure 1, is of proper length to allow the razor blade to berplaced over the' hooked `lugs by iirst placing one. end of the Lblade over one of the hooked lugs and then by longitudinal displacement past the center which then permits the opposite end of the blade to be placed over the other hooked lug, and the entrance oi the end of the tubular body 4l through the round opening of the razor blade into the round opening 20 of the guard i3, serves to centrally position the razor blade over the hooked lugs ill-ld as to cause the ends of the razor blade at the ends of the narrow slot in the razor blade to abut the hooks l8-ld, and not allow the razor blade to pass the hooks iii-i8 until after the clamp plate member is removed from the razor when the blade is released for passage of the hooks itl-i8 and the blade may be easily lifted from off of the hooked lugs iii-i6. When the razor is in position of Figures 1l and 12 the clamp plate member may be lifted out of the razor and the razor disconnected by turning the knob ifll to the right.
Employment of right-left hand screw operative arrangement in the razor structure provides means for retention of the operating member connected operational relationship with the tubular stem and the blade guard and the blade clamp member; at same time providingr a razor structure that may be easily disconnected if and when desired. The right-left hand screw arrangement also provides mean for greatly ac'- celerating the operating facility of the razor.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully explain my invention, that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the saine for use under various conditions of service.
I claim:
l.. A safety razor guard having notched edges, two upright diametrically opposed hooked lugs iixedly attached to the razor guard, bevelled ledges formed on the upper side of said notched edges of the razor guard, said bevelled ledges extending lengthwise oi the notched edges of the razor guard, a round central opening in the razor guard having two notches communicating therewith, one extending out from each side thereof.
2. In a razor handle, a tubular stem having two channels located in the inner wall of'said" stem, said channels extending longitudinally from one end of said stem, left' hand threading' 4. A safety razor operating member, comprising a cylindrical body hai-'ing a cylindrical por1 tion of small diameter, and a cylindrical portion of large diameter, an elongated shoulder formed on said body intermediate of said large and said small cylindrical portions, right-hand threadingl on said small cylindrical portion and left-handv threading on said large cylindrical portion and a longitudinal bore into that portion of the cylindrical body having the large diameter, and a rectangular opening through the side of said cylindrical body intersecting the longitudinal bore into the cylindrical body.
5. A safety razor clamp member comprising a clamp plate and a cylindrical body formedat the medial point of said clamp plate 0n the under-surface thereof, said clamp plate having' two rectangular openings located onev at eitherr end of the clamp plate and the affixed cylinder body having" two flanges formedw ontlfie"'sid'e's`-` thereof, each of said two flanges having an intermediate oval and large portion, and aforesaid cylindrical body having a longitudinal inner bore, said longitudinal inner bore having right-hand threading.
