FRAME FILM SUPPORTING Filea May 2 Patented Feb. 8, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FILM SUPPORTING FRAME Dominick L. Caldarulo, Falls City, Nebr.
Application May 21, 1947, Serial No. 749,495
2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in film supporting frames and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a frame to support various sizes of photographic sheet film during the developing, fixing, washing, and drying thereof.
Another important purpose of the present invention is to provide a base bar including a pair of side bars which are longitudinally adjustable on said base bar for accommodating various lengths of sheet film.
A further aim of the present invention is to provide a device of the character referred to which is quickly and readily disassembled to form a compact article for facility in packing and shipment of the same.
A still further intention of the present invention is to provide a device of the class described which is simple and practical in construction, strong and durable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a front elevational view showing the device in use in a conventional sheet film processing tank, with parts of the tank broken away and shown in section.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral i represents an elongated .base bar having a longitudinal groove l2 in its outer face and a plurality of transverse notches M in its upper face.
Longitudinally adjustable on bar ID, are substantially rectangular brackets 15 having a ribbed member l6 adapted to engage groove l2.
Riveted, or otherwise suitably secured to brackets l are pawls l8 which detachably engage 2 notches 14 for adjustment of the brackets on the base bar.
integrally formed with brackets l5 are substantially L-shaped channel side bars 20 and 2| having their leg portions 24 and 26 turned inwardly toward each other, as more clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawings.
Openings 28 are provided in both of said side bars and their leg portions preventing air bubbles from forming in said side bars which would cause irregular development in the solution of film 30.
In use of the device, the sheet of film is placed in the channeled side bars with the lower edge of said sheet supported by the leg portions of the side bars.
By adjusting brackets I5, the device will accommodate any size sheet of film.
Having thus fitted the film to the device it is merely necessary to insert the film into a conventional processing tank 32 containing photostatic medium 34 so that the end of base bar In rests on the upper edge or rim of said vat, as shown in Figure 4 of the drawings.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A film supporting frame comprising a base bar having a longitudinal. groove, a pair of slidable brackets carried by said base bar, channel ribs in said brackets for engaging the groove in said base bar, substantially L-shaped channel side bars integrally formed with said brackets adapted to receive the lower edge and side edges of a sheet of film, said side bars having openings to prevent air bubbles forming therein, and locking means carried by each of the brackets for sliding adjustment of the side bars toward and away from each other.
carried by said brackets adapted to engage 10 notches in the base bar for longitudinal adjustment of said side bars toward and away from each other.
