A. W. BUSH.
WATCH MAKERS TOOL.
No. 246,074. Patented Aug. 23,1881.

v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR W. BUSH, OF BOULDER, COLORADO.
WATCH-MAKERS TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,074, dated August 23, 1881.
Application filed February 25, 1881.
The invention consists of an elongated flat.
rectangular plate of metal having a longitudi-' nnl slot formed in its face parallel with its sides; and it consists, further, of a flatspringactuated slide movable in said slot, so that the ruby-pin orjewel-pin can be caught and held in an upright position for attachment of the roller-table between the forward end of the slide and the corresponding end of the slot.
Figure] is an enlarged plan of the improved tool. Fig.2 is an enlarged sectional longitudinal elevation of the same on line w m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation on line yy, Fig. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of portionsofthe works ofa watch, showing the rubypin or pin-jewel and roller-table in position.
Fig. 5 is a detail view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the tool, consisting of a flat elongated rectangular metal plate, B, having one end shaped into a ring, a, fOlCOllVBlllGUCB of handling, and having formed in it a rectangular slot, b, that extends from about the center of said plate B to near its end, and is equidistant between and parallel with the sides thereof. I The sides of said slot 1) are tonguedorrabbetedforaportionoftheirlength, as shown at c, which rabbets c serve to hold the slide 0 in position. The slide 0 is a fiat plate of metal having grooved edges, as shown at d, that fits in the slot 1) between the rabbets c, and to the upper face of said slide 0 is attached a rod or handle, D, that extends rearward over the slot 11 and passes through a lug,
(ModeL) f, projecting upward from the plate B at the rear end of the slot 1). Between the lugf and slide 0 this handle D is encircled with a spiral spring, E, that operates to press said slide O forward to hold the ruby-pin or pin-j ewel against the end of the slot b.
The forward edge of the slide 0 has a curved recess, g, formed in it, and a corresponding recess, h, is formed in the plate B at the front of the slot 1), so that when the slide O is in position at the forward end of the slot 1) a rounded or ovoid opening is formed by the recessesg h for the reception of the ruby-pin or. pin-jewel F. These recesses 9 7L may be made of any desired shape to accommodate the pin-jewels to beoperatedu mn. Thepin-jewelFbeingfirmly held in the recess g It by the action of the spring E, the roller-table G is set in place, resting on the face of the tool B on said pin-jewel F, and secured thereto with shellac or by other suitable means.
1t will be seen that this tool A enables the operator to hold the pin-jewel properly and to atlix the roller-table truly thereto, for the reason that the face of the tool B and the recess 9 h are at right angles with each other.
H represents a watch-arbor, 1 the balancewheel, and K a watch-spring, these parts being shown to indicate the relative position in a watch of the roller-table with its jewel-pin.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a watch-makers tool constructedsubstantially as herein shown and described, consisting of plate B,having slot 1) and lug f, and springactuated slide 0, provided with handle D, operating as set forth.
2. The combination, with the flat rectangular plate B, provided with rabbeted slot 1), recess h, and log], of the slide 0, provided with edge grooves, d, and recess 9, handle 1), and spiral spring E, substantially as and for the purpose described.
ARTHUR W. BUSH.
