Description
Patented Dec. 7, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LOOM BUMPER Mack Henry Holcombe, Scottdale, Ga. Application February 18, 1946, Serial No. 648,317 1 Claim. (Cl. 139-166) This invention relates to improvements in the right hand bumper for automatic looms.
In devising my invention I have aimed to provide a bumper which may be easily applied to and detached from the loom, which will be durable and give support to the picker stick guide on the automatic loom.
I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation showing a sucient portion of the right hand side of the loom to illustrate the application of my invention, while Fig. 2 is a top section detailed. Fig. 3 represents the end section detailed.
Referring by reference characters to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates a picker stick guide used on automatic looms and 9 the picker stick in the customary position in the loom.
The numeral I designates the cast iron core of the bumper. The core l is formed of cast metal and provided with a bolt hole 4 for bolt 3 to pass through the picker stick guide, bumper, and lay sword of loom for which the bumper is made secure to the loom, which with the countersunk part of picker stick guide 5 in which bolt head 3 is out of the way so that the outgoing quill will not be tripped on the transfer of the loom.
The numeral 8 designates strips of leather that are so bound around bumper core l, and made secure in this position by bolt and nut 6. This 2 padding of leather 8 is so designed to take up the shock of the picker stick.
By this construction it will readily be seen that the bumper may quickly be applied to the loom and by reason of its simple construction will be very durable. Further, as the only parts which will wear and have to be replaced are the strips of leather, these may be quickly removed and replaced at any time.
I claim:
In a loom having a picker stick, a picker stick bumper comprising a cast iron body having top, bottom and end portions, a plurality of layers of leather carried by said body, at least one of said layers covering the top, bottom and one end portion, there being a plurality of layers covering said one end portion, the body being secured to the loom in such position that said one end portion is struck by the picker stick at the end of its inward movement.
