LIGHTING SET Filed March 21, 1946 un lll ATTD RN EYB Patented Nov. 16, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LIGHTING SET Bernard A. Belling, Beaver Dam, Wis. Application March 21, 1946, Serial No. 655,919
(Cl. 24U- 10) 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to electric lighting sets and more particularly to a portable lighting outiit that can be used for Christmas tree decoration and similar ornamental purposes.
An object of this invention is to provide a simple, safe and effective form of support that can be attached to the trunk of a Christmas tree which will supply current to a number of lamps arranged in parallel and disposed at various points as may be desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device that can be easily installed Without the use of tools or similar appliances.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of a Christmas tree `with several of the supports attached thereto.
Figure 3 is an elevational View of a socket.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 6.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line of Figure 6.
Figure 6 is a top plan view of the socket looking in the direction of the arrows on the line 6--6 of Figure 3 and Figure 7 is a sectional View on the line 1 1 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the reference numeral I0 indicates a split collar which is made of mating complementary sections I2 and I4. The collar I0 is made of rubber so that it can be snapped around the trunk I6 of a Christmas tree I8 as shown in Figure 2 and the sections are bound together by any suitable vulcanizing means.
The bottom section I4 is provided with annular grooves 2D to receive the electric wires 22 and sockets 24 are connected in -parallel to the Wires 22 by conductor wires 26 and the ring I0 is provided with the integral plug 28 having the terminal wires 30.
The sockets 24 comprise a molded insulating casing 32 having a chamber 34 extending from an opened 36 to the closed end 38 at the bottom of the chamber fixed in the chamber 34 is a metallic screw contact shell member 40 which is adapted to receive the screw base of a miniature lamp 42.
The shell supports an insulated disc 44 which carries the center contact member 46 of the socket and the shell has the outer contact member soldered at 48 to the shell as shown in Figures 4 and 5.
Each socket is equipped With suitable spring clips 50 for attaching the socket to the branches 52 of the Christmas tree.
It will be noted that the supports can be arranged on the tree as desired and can be advantageously distributed around the branches as desired and connected in parallel by the extension cords 54 which by means of plug 56 are connected to a source of current. The set being made for volt A. C. current multiple lighting. That the supports or collars due to their resilient nature can be placed around trunks of various dimensions and can be made of various sizes for accommodating large or small trunks.
It is believed that the operation and construction of the lighting set will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that various changes in details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described, comprising a split collar formed of flexible material, said collar being formed of complementary mating sections which are in face to face relation to each other, one of said sections being provided with a pair of spaced annular grooves on the mating face thereof, conductor wires in said grooves, electric lamp sockets, lead Wires for connecting said sockets in parallel with said conductor wires and attaching means carried by said sockets.
