POCKET TOILET-CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,208, dated August 2, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Jesse B. NoYEs, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pocket Toilet-Cases, of which the following is a-specification.

The object I have in view is to produce a pocket toilet or dressing case which can be laid open flat on all sides and can be folded into box form, will have the articles arranged in an exceedingly convenient manner and properly protected from contact with each other without dividing the case into separate compartments, and so that they can be folded together into compact form and will fill the entire interior of the case; and my objectis, further, to so construct such a case that it will be sutficiently open at all times to ventilate the articles contained therein and prevent them from getting musty.

My invention consists in the peculiar c struction of my pocket toilet-case to accomplish theabove objects, asfully hereinafterexplained, and pointed out by the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case closed; Fig. 2, a cross-section of the case on line 2 2; Fig. 3, a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 4 a View of a smaller form of the case laid open- Like letters denote corresponding parts in all four figures.

The toiletor dressing case is of oblong-box shape. It is composed of a rectangular oblong back, A, which is preferably made of leather, stitched to a suitable lining, or pasted with a lining to a suitable intermediate stiffening material. The case has two rectangular sides, B B, which are the same length asthe back, and are preferably made in one piece therewith, the leather being creasedat the juncture of the sides and-back, so that the natural position of such sides will be at right angles to the back. A rectangular covering or front piece, C, of the same size and shape as the back A, is made continuous with one of the sides, while the other side has a flap, D, which folds over upon the piece 0, and is secured thereto by a suitable fastening, E. The ends F F of the case are made separate from the back A, or in one piece therewith, and have inwardly-extending top flaps, G G, which enter the case below the front piece, C. All the parts of the case are creased at the angles, so that they will fold naturally into box shape, but can be readily opened out flat to give access to the interior of thecase. The endsFF are retained in place wholly by the flaps G G. The case springs apart at the ends far enough so thata thorough ventilation ofits interior is secured, and being flexible, the case is very strong and cannot be damaged or broken by close packing in a valise or trunk, or by being accidentally dropped.

On its interior the case has a loop, a, on the back A,for receiving the handle of ahair-brush, H. In the large case shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 this loop is placed a little to one side of the lateral center of 'the case, and a long loop, I), for the tooth-brush I is also secured to the back A. This loop b receives and covers the entire head of the tooth-brush, protecting it from dirt or dust. This loop I) is also arranged opposite the handle of the hair-brush, so that no odor from the hair-brush can be communicated to the tooth-brush.

On one of the sides B B of the large case is a loop, a, for a razor, K, while onthe other side is a loop. d, for a comb, L, and nail-brush M. In the folding of the case the head of the nail-brush lies over the handle of the hair-brush. This'leaves a space over the said handle between the nail and tooth brushes. This spaceis occupied by an extension lather br p sh, N, held by a loop, 6, mtnees'a na s G G. Thus it will be seen that very little space is lost, while the articles are well separated.

In the small case, Fig. 4, the loop a for the handle of the hair-brush is placed in the lateral center of the back A, while the long loop I) for the tooth-brush, and the loop at for the nailbrush and comb, (or for the nail-brush alone when a wire hair-brush is used,) are located on the sides BB, in such positions that the heads of the tooth and nail brushes fold over the handle of the hair-brush.

It will be seen that this caseis made wholly of flexible material and without any rigid frame.

Vbat I claim as my invention is-- The pocket toilet-case herein described, consisting of rectangular oblong back A, rectangular sides B B, rectangular front piece, 0, flap I), ends F F, inwardly-extendin g top flaps, G G, and a suitable fastening, E, said parts being creased at the angles to adapt them to fold into box form, having a single compartment provided with loops for holdingand separating the articles, the heads of the tooth and nail brushes being located next to the handle of the hair-brush, substantially as and for the purpose described.
