This invention relates tothe ofilcial classof printing and more particularly goldpress stamp in; machines. I
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of means whereby the type blocks are readily clamped in rigid relation to the head for printing.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of means adapted to clamp a series of type blocks in printing position relative to the head.
A further object of this invention resides in the particular construction of the stamping head.
A still further object of this invention resides in the particular construction and arrangement of the clamping blocks. Aside from the aforesaid objects, this invention resides in the particular construction of the operating screw of the clamping block.
In addition to the foregoing objects, this invention resides in the particular construction and arrangement of the clamping bar of the type blocks.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims and, although this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such changes in construction and arrangement of elements as come within the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application:
Fig, 1 is a perspective view of the stamping head taken from the front thereof.
Fig. 2 is a similar view taken from the rear thereof.
Fig.3 is a perspective View of the clamping blocks in juxtaposition.
Fig. l is a similar view of the clamping bar.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the head.
Fig. 6 is a sectional View taken approximately on line 6-6 of Fig, 1.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 1-1 of Fig. 1.
In the present illustration of this invention the numeral 5 designates, in general, the printing head (only) of a goldpress stamping machine which, among other wellknown or optional elements used therewith, consists of a face plate 6, a rear plate I and end plates 8 connected together by screws 9 or the like.
2 Claims. (01. 101-28)- The rear plate I is provided with an inwardly extending fin l0 extendingthroughout the length thereof with its inner end ll disposed in spaced relation to the inner surface l2 of the face plate .6.
Formed in the end plates are aligned apertures l3 through which extend trunnions l4 and I5 of a right and left hand screw I6 of greater diameter than the aforesaid trunnions to rotatably mount the same between the end plates with no endwise movement therebetween. V
The right and left hand threads of the screw extend on opposite sides of the medial point thereof to its opposite ends, however, it is within the purview of this invention to increase or diminish the length of the same. Said trunnion i5 is provided with a knob l5 with which to turn the screw it.
Slidably mounted on the aforesaid fin Ill as by guide slots 'll cut inwardly therein from their near edges I8 are clamping blocks l9 and 20 which are further provided with other slots 2| of greater lengths than the first mentioned slots slidably receiving a substantially rectangular (in cross section) bar 22 adapted to be tightened against a series of type blocks T seated against the lower surface of the fin and inner surface of the rear plate by a thumb-screw 23 or the like threadedly extending through the face plate of the stamping head. The clamping blocks l9 and 20 are provided with threaded bores 24 to receive the oppositely threaded screw so as to operate the same toward one another in securing the type blocks therebetween and away from one another to release the type blocks or permit additional ones to be assembled therebetween. Said assemblage of elements permits insertion and clamping therebetween one or more type blocks regardless of their being of the conventional thick or thin kind with the same disposed approximately in the center of the head for equal pressure thereof.
With this invention fully set forth, it is manifest that means are provided whereby the type blocks can be accurately set in the stamping head and quickly removed therefrom and, through the instrumentality of the simple construction thereof, the cost of manufacture will be reasonable.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with the stamping head of a goldpress stamping machine, a screw having right and left hand threads rotatably mounted in the head, a knob on one end of the screw, opposed clamping blocks threaded on the screw and having guide slots therein, a fin formed on the head and seated in the guide slots of the clamping blocks type blocks having their body portions removably resting against the lower surface of the fin and inner surface of the rear wall of the head, a substantially rectangular clamping bar seated and forwardly and rearwardly slidable in other slots formed in the clamping blocks and bearing against the type blocks secured between the clamping blocks, and a thumb-screw threadedlydisposed in the stamping head with its inner end jamming the clamping bar against the aforesaid type blocks.
2. In a goldpress stampingmach-inecempri'sing a face plate, a rear plate secured thereto, end plates secured to the aforesaid plates and having aligned bearing apertures therein, aninwardly extending fin formed on the inner surface of the rear plate with its inner end disposed in spaced relation to the inner surface of the face plate, clamping blocksrhaving open guide slots-receiving the and other open: slots. of-greaterrlengths; than; the fin: receiving slots: adjacent thereto, a screw having right and left threads; engaged in threaded bores of ends bearing against the inner surfaces of the end plates, trunnions on the screw seated in the apertures of the end plates, a knob secured to one of the trunnions outwardly of the adjacent end plate, a rectangular clamping bar seated and forwardly and rearwardly slidable in the aforesaid longer slots of the. clamping blocks, and a thumb-screw threaded through the face plate with its inner end bearing against the clamping 10 bar the clamping blocks with: its 25 HAT'IIE ANON,
