1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigarette dispensing devices, and more particularly to a portable device of this character adapted for placing on a table or other article of furniture and including means for manually dispensing cigarettes singly therefrom.
More specifically, the invention embodies the provision of a portable cabinet structure including a base having sliding drawers mounted therein for containing packages of cigarettes or other smokers articles and mounting a cigarette container on top of the base for holding a plurality of loose cigarettes and providing a manually operated dispensing device working in the container to dispense cigarettes singly therefrom.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which: v
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device with parts broken away and shown in section;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on a line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 2 and with parts of the base broken away and shown in section;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line 4-4 of Figure 2; and
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on a line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawings-in detail wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral 5 designates the base portion of a portable cabinet structure, the base being hollow and including a bottom 6, top 1 and side walls 8. The side Walls have openings 9 therein for receiving drawers l0 having knobs II to slide the drawers into and out of the base through the openings 9 thereof.
Mounted on the top I of the base, and suitably secured thereto, is a substantially rectangular housing or container I2 having a false bottom I3 therein provided with sloping sides of substantially trough-shaped construction and having an opening I4 at the bottom of the trough. The ends of the container I2 are formed with vertical grooves I5 in which the end edges of a vertically slidable cigarette disepnsing member I6 are engaged. The dispensing member I6 works through the opening I4 of the trough and also works through an opening I! in the top 1 of the base.
An inverted U-shaped bracket I8 is secured to the under side of the top I and to which the intermediate portion of a lever I9 is pivotally supported by a wire hanger 20 which is pivoted both to the bracket I8 and to the lever I9 to provide for a swinging as well as a pivotal movement of the lever. One end of the lever projects outwardly through a vertical slot '2 I in one side wall of the base and the inner end of the lever is bifurcated, as shown at 22, to straddle the lower edge of the dispensing member I6, the bifurcated end of the lever being pivoted to the central lower edge of the dispensing member by a pin 23.
The dispensing member I6 is normally held in a raised position in the container l2 by means of a coil spring 24 attached at one end to the bottom 6 of the base and having its other end attached to the lever I9 at a point outwardly of the hanger 20.
The dispensing member is lowered for receiving a cigarette in a longitudinally extending trough 21 in the upper edge of the member by lifting the outer end of the lever I9 upwardly, which causes the hanger 20 to swing inwardly toward the dispensing member and upwardly into the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2 to compensate for the variation in the vertical sliding movement of r the dispensing member and the arc of the pivotal movement of the lever. The raising of the outer end of lever I9 increases the tension on spring 24 which is moved toward a parallel relation with the lever to exert a longitudinal pulling force on the lever which causes a canting effect on the dispensing member to bind the latter in the grooves I5 and thus holds the dispensing member in its lowered position until the outer end of the lever is again lowered to dispense the cigarette.
The container I2 is constructed in the form of a miniature house and the top '25 represents a peaked roof with the opening 26 at its ridge. Each sloping side of the roof is provided with a slot 29 for filling the container with cigarettes, the slots being closed by sliding closures 30. At one end of the container is an imitation chimney 3I.
What I claim as new is:
