PHOTOGRAPH-ALBUM.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,357, dated July 12, 1881. Application filed March 15, 1881. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that we, EDMOND BINNECHRE and HENRI COGHARD, of Paris, in the Departmentof Seine, in the Republic of France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photograph-Albums; and we do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, rei'erence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the album closed. Fig. 2 is a similar View, showing the flap and front open. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the leaves, showing their manner of attachment to the exible back; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the album open, in position for inspection of the pictures.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.

Our invention has relation to albums or portfolios for photographic and other pictures; and it consists in the detailed construction and arrangement of parts of an album which is adapted to stand in an upright position upon a table or other support during the inspection of its contents, as hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the annexed drawings, F represents the leaves, which are united by a piece of skin or other flexible fabric, f, in the manner clearly shown in Fig. 3. These leaves are contained within a case composed of a stiff back, a bottom piece, two side pieces, (designated by the letter D,) and two folding front pieces, C C, hinged to the sides D. The fronts C C are connected by flexible and elastic clasps E,'and

are, when the album is closed, protected by the one-piece front B, which is hinged to the bottom, and over which folds the flap A, fastened by alock or any other suitable device, b.

the sides D, with their fronts C C, are turned back, (by opening the clasps E,) the sides standing at right angles to the back, but in a reversed position, as shown in Fig. 4, in which position they serve as a support for the album.

Auxiliary sides or corners (shown at D) are provided for connecting and bracing the back and bottom, as shown in Fig. 4. These also serve as guides for the leaves in turning them down while inspecting the contents of the alburn or portfolio.

Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire tosecure by Letters Patent of the United States- The described album or portfolio, composed of a back and bottom connected by rigid corners D', leaves F, united by a flexible back, j', folding sides D, having hinged fronts C, with clasps E, front pieces B, and ilap A, the whole constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
