Description

K. T. BUTTERY DISPLAY EASEL May l l, 1948.
Filed March 4, 1946 INVEN TOR. nemer/ 77 Baz/@f7 ATTORNEK atented May 11, A1948 UNITED 4fSTATes rAfrENT Kenneth futtery, Xalamazon, Mich., .assigner to Sutherland Paper Company, Kalamazoo, Mich., a corporation of Michigan Application March 4, 1946, Serial `No. 1651,808
This invention relates to 'improvements in display easels l'The mai-n objects -of this invention are:
First, to provide a display veasel formed ci fa single sheet or blank -of -cardboard or container stock or the like which when erected is quite strong and rigid and one which may be shipped in the knockdown or flat and easily erected for use.
Second, to provide an easel h-aving these advantages which is attractive in appearance and adapted for the displaying of advertising.
Objects relating to details and economies of the invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is deiined and pointed out in the claims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the easel of my invention in erected position, a box to be displayed being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation in erected position with the box-like object to be displayed indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view in section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the easel in collapsed form partially broken away.
The easel of my invention is formed of a sheet of cardboard or container board or similar stock and comprises a plate-like upright or body portion I having an opening 2 therein adapted to receive an object to be displayed as indicated by the dotted lines 3 in Figs. 1 and 2. The opening is desirably rectangular in shape. The upright is extended above the opening to receive advertising matter, legends, or other display matter as indicated in Fig. l.
The base 4 is hingedly connected at its iront edge to the bottom edge of the opening 2, the hinge connection being indicated at 5, Fig. 4. The base member is scored transversely or from front to rear at 6 to provide foot members 1 which are swung down at the ends of the base member when the easel is erected.
To lock the foot members in erected position, locking members 8 are cut from the base and its foot members, see Fig. 4, the scores 9 providing hinges for the locking members. The swinging edges of the locking members are notched at l to engage the foot members as is clearly shown in Fig. 3.
I provide strut arms I I which Iare hingedly connected to the upper edge of the upright opening 4 crains. (c1. eis-eres) i2 as .indicated at l2 in fFig. 4 do be swung rearwardly therefrom as .best shown in Fig. 2.
*The strut 1| 3 hingedly :connectedito .one side edge of the 'arm elil 'by the vhinge.connection:incitcatedat I4 aso that -thestrut may -be swung idowfnwardly atrig'ht angles to the Farmfthe `si'.rui, ibeing adapted to be insered in the slit I5 in the base member and having a locking tongue I6 interlocking with the base so that the parts are securely heid in erected position. The base and the strut constitute supports for an object displayed as is shown in Fig. 3.
It will be noted that the base, strut arm, and strut are cut from the stock originally within the borders of the opening in the upright and that the locking members are cut from the base and its foot members so that all the material is within the outlines or borders of the single sheet. The strut li-es in the blank parallel with the rear edge of the base.
I have illustrated and described my invention in a highly practical embodiment thereof. I have not attempted to illustrate modic-ations or adaptations in the matter of design as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my invention as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display easel formed of an integral blank of container board or the like cut and scored to provide a plate-like upright having an opening therein for an object to be displayed, a base hingedly secured at its front edge to the upright at the lower edge of the said opening thereof, said base having foot members hingedly connected to its ends, a strut arm hingedly connected to the upright at the upper edge of its said opening to extend rearwardly therefrom, and a strut hingedly connected to one side edge of said arm to be swung to erected position on the arm and engaged with the base, the base and strut constituting supports for an object arranged in the opening in said upright, said base. strut and strut arm being cnt from the stock originally within the borders of the opening in the upright.
2. A display easel formed of an integral blank of container board or the like cut and scored to provide a plate-like upright having an opening therein for an object to 'be displayed, a base hingedly secured at its front edge to the upright at the lower edge of the said opening thereof, said base having foot members hingedly connected to its ends, a strut arm hingedly connected to the 3 upright at the upper edge of its said opening t extend rearwardly therefrom, and a strut hingedly connected to one side edge of said arm to be swung to erected position on the arm and engaged with the base.
3. A display easel formed of an integral blank of container board or the like cut and scored to provide a plate-like upright having an opening therein for an object to be displayed, a base hingedly secured at its fronil end to the upright at the lower edge of the said opening, said base having foot members hingedly connected to its ends, locking members hngedly connected to said base member to be swung to erected position to engage the foot member when they are in erected position, a strut arm hingedly connected 4 hingedly secured at its front end to the upright 'at the lower edge of the said opening, said base having foot members hingedly connected to its ends, a strut arm hingedly connected to the upright at the upper edge of its said opening to extend rearwardly therefrom, and a strut hingedly connected to one side edge of said arm to be swung to erected position on the arm, the base being Aslit to receive the lowerl end of the strut when it is in erected position, the base and strut constituting supports for an object arranged in the opening in said upright, said base, strut, and
to the upright at the upper edge of its said opent ing to extend rearwardly therefrom, and a strut hingedly connected to one side edge of said arm A to be swung to erected position on the arm and engaged with the base when it is in erected position.
4. A display easel formed of an integral blank of container board or the like cut and scored to provide a plate-like upright having an opening therein for an object to be displayed, a base strut arm being cut from the stock originally 'within the borders of the opening in the upright. 1&5v
