I REMOVBLE SANITARY BELT TAB Filed Deo. 8, 1945 L M W.
Patented Mar. 3 0, 1948 UNITED STATES .rari-:NT oFFIc'E j Sarah D. Postlethwaite, New York, N. Y.
Application December 8, 1945, Serial No. .633,781
1 Claim.
This invention relates tocatamenial appliances, and more particularly to new and useful improvements in sanitary belts.
An object of this invention is to provide a sanitary belt that can be donned and removed with ease and will be comfortable to wear.
A further object is to form the belt with front and back tabs capable of cooperatively carrying a sanitary pad, said tabs being removably attached to the waist band portion of the belt.
Another object is to form the removable front and back tabs identically so that the waist band portion of the device can be supplied with a plurality of tabs, any two of which can be interchangeably used with the waist band to form the device.
These and other objects are accomplished by forming a sanitary belt of two elastic side straps coupled in front and in back by triangular links, and by providing tabs with hook elements that can lit over one side of the links.
Such a belt is superior to the belts heretofore used. One advantage is that the tabs can be laundered separately thus prolonging the life of the elastic side straps which require fewer washings. Another advantage is that sanitary pads can be changed by detaching the tabs without removing the waist band portion, attaching the pad to the tabs prior to suspending them from the waist portion.
Still another advantage lies in the fact that the waist band portion can continue to be used with a freshly laundered pair of tabs while used tabs are being washed.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a sanitary belt incorporating the invention herein.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig, 3 is a perspective view showing the front and a side of one of the removable tabs of the sanitary belt.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the rear and other side of the tab.
In the drawings and in the specification, in which like numbers designate similar elements, the sanitary belt 0, shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, is comprised of two elastic side straps II 2 coupled in front and in back by triangular links I2, forming a waist band portion and two detachable tabs I3 suspended from the links by attachy ing elements I 4 and carrying at their free ends gripping means comprising a triangular connector plate I5 adapted to grip and retain in cooperation a sanitary pad (not shown).
Each of the attaching elements It has a hooked portion IS adapted to t over one of the sides of the link I2 and ccact with it to -secure the tab I3 detachably to the waist band portion, and a slotted portion il capable of admitting the tab.
Each of the gripping means I5 has an opening or slot I8 capable of admitting the tab and a circular opening I9 for use to attach to the sanitary pad.
The links I2, attaching elements Ill and gripping means I5 can be made of metal, plastic or other rigid material that can be machined, cast or molded to pattern.
If it is desired, the elastic side straps II can be provided with means to adjust the circumference of the belt.
While the drawings show the links to be triangular in shape and functioning in part as the female elements coacting with the male hooks on the attaching elements I 4 to suspend the tabs, the link can be of any shape that will provide a female coacting interlocking element, or can be formed with a male interlocking element and the attaching element I4 with a coacting female interlocking element, all within the spirit of this invention.
From the foregoing specification, it is obvious that the two front and rear tabs I3, together with their associated attaching elements M and gripping `means I5, are readily detachable from the two part sanitary belt I0, and are interchangeable.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: Y
A sanitary belt, comprising a pair of belt sections, a pair of identical triangular members connecting the ends of the belt sections to each other and providing horizontal supporting bars, a pair of identical U-shaped hooks, each of said hooks being engaged with each horizontal supporting bar of each triangular member and provided with 3 an opening therein, a strap extended through said hook, and a triangular connector plate on the lower end of each strap, each of said connectors having an aperture formed therein prov viding means for securing one end of a sanitary pad thereto, said U-shaped hooks being detachable from said horizontal bars of said triangular i Number members to Wholly detach the sanitary pad fromy the belt section s; V Y
