ihis invention relates to new and useful improvernents in collar clips, and is a further dep cnt of my abandoned application, filed on February 11, 1939, Serial Number 255,806.

More particularly, the invention proposes an improved collar clip characterized by a bar for extending across the points of 'a collar and associated with clamp jaws acting in a certain way to eiiectively secure the bar to the collar.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanyingdrawings, 'and'tothe appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The collar clip, in accordance with the form of the invention disclosed in Figs. 1-4, includes a bar "l8 for extending across the points .of a collar. Clamp jaws 19 are connected with the back of the bar I8 and are adapted to coact with the end portions of the bar to connect with the points of the collar. Each clamp jaw l9 has a roughened orserrated outer end 29. Each clampjaw is provided with a pair of lugs 2| pivotally connected by pintles 22 with lugs 23 formed on the bar It.

The clamp jaws H] are associated with means for supplying the necessary clamping force. This means is in the nature of a leaf spring 24 extended along the inner face of the bar l9 and having end portions 25 directed towards each other and extending around the pivotal pins 22. These end portions 25 engage the inner ends of the clamp jaws 19 for urging the inner ends outwards and thus urging the outer ends of the clamp jaws resiliently against the end portions of said bar I 8.

In Figs. 5 and 6 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in the construction and arrangemerit of the means for supplying the necessary clamping force to the clamp jaws. Each clamp jaw is provided with a coil spring 26 engaged around the pivot pintle 22 thereof, Each coil spring 26 has its end portion secured by solder 2-1, praising, or other similar material to the bar l3 and the clamp jaw l9. Each coil spring 25 urges the outer end of each clamp jaw towards and against the outer end of the bar. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identifylike parts in each of the several views. a

In Fig. '7 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the first form, distinguishing merely in the fact that the bar I 8' is made of sheet metal or other thin rigid material compared with the plastic construction of the bar I8.

In Fig. 8 another form of the invention is shown which "is similar to Fig. 7, distinguishing in the fact that a pair of leaf springs 29 are used for urging the 'clamping'jaws I 3 into their clamping positions. Each leaf spring 29 has an end portion 2-5 engaging against the inner ends of the jaws [9 for urging the outer ends into clamping positions. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.

In Figs. '9-11 still another 'form of the invention is shown in which the collar clip includes a bar 30 for extending across the points of a collar. This bar is provided with lugs 3| at its center. A pair of clamping jaws 32 cross each other and are pivotally connected with the lugs 3| by a pintle 33. Coil springs 34 are mounted on the pintle 33 and have their ends connected with the clamp jaws 32 for urging the outer ends of the clamp jaws against the ends of the bar 30. The inner end of each clamp jaw may be depressed for opening the outer end.

In Figs. 12 and 13 still another form of the invention has been disclosed in which the collar clip includes a bar 35 for extending across the points of a collar and provided with a pair of side lugs 38 pivotally supporting a pair of clamp 4 formed on the inner face of one of said members, a stud portion formed on the other of said members and slidably engaging said socket portion, and a screw providing a wide handling face rotatively supported on the member having said socket portion and threadedly engaging said stud portion for extending and retracting said stud portion relative to said socket portion throughout a continuously variable range of adjustment and further adapted to provide a continuously variable range of adjustment of the compressive forces exerted on the points of said collar as said screw is turned in one direction or the other to urge said members away from each other or tojaws 31. Coil springs 39 are coaxially mounted on the pintle pin 38 and have their ends connected with the clamp jaws and with the bar 35 for urging the outer ends together. a The outer ends of each clamp jaw 31 are provided with an auxiliary clamp screw 40. These clamp screws 40 have outer-heads 4| bywhich they may be manually turned. Each clamp screw is provided with an inner gripping head 42. i V

' 'In Fig. 14 still another form of the invention is shown in which the collar clip includes a bar 45for extending across the points of a collar and having an integral central neck 46 which connects with an integral pair of clamp jaws 41.

These clamp jaws 41 are provided with clamp screws 40 having heads 4| and 42. In other respects'this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of'the several views.

-In-Figs. and 16 another form of the invention is disclosed in which the collar clip includes a bar 40 for extending across the points of a collar-and having a central socket portion 5|. Another bar 52 simulates a pair of clamp jaws. -This bar52 is provided with a stud 53 slidably engaging thesocket portion 5|. A clamp screw 54is rotatively mounted through the bar 50 and threadedly engages thestud'portion 53 by which the clamp jaws-may be moved into clamping positions,

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that -I do not' limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved-to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

-Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United StatesLettersPatent is: r r

--l-; A: collar clip having a bar member for extending across the front face of the points ofa collar and a clamp jaw member for extending across the back faces of the points of a collar behind said bar member,- means for drawing said bar member and jaw members together with the points of said'collar in position between the ends of said bar member and jaw member to be clamped thereby, comprising a socket portion wards each other, said bar and said clamp jaw member having intimate contact at their center and edge portions and being apart from each other at their intermediate portions.

A collar clip having.a bar member for extending across th front face of the points of a collar and a clamp jaw member fOr extending across the back'faces of the points of a collar behind said bar member, means for drawing said bar member and jaw members together with the points of said collar in position between the ends of said bar member and jaw member to be clamped thereby, comprising a socket portion formed on the inner face of one of said members, a stud portion formed on, the other of said members and slidably engaging said socket portion, and a screw providing a wide handling face rotatively supported on the member having said socket portion and threadedly engaging said stud portion for extending and retracting said stud portion relative to said socket portion throughouta continuously variable range of adjustment and further adapted to provide a continuously variable range of adjustment of the compressive forces exerted on the points of said collar as said screw is turned in one direction or the other to urge said members away from each other or towards each other, said socket portion and said stud portion being formed on their respective members intermediate of their ends so that said portions may be engaged with each other between the adjacent edges of the points of said collar, said bar and said clamp jaw member having intimate con tactat their'center and edge portions and being apart from each other at their intermediate portions;

A collar clip having a bar'member for extending across the front face of the points of a collar and a clamp jaw member for extending across the back faces of the points of a collar behind said bar member, means for drawing said bar member and jaw members together with the points of said collar in position between the ends of said bar member and jaw member to be clamped thereby, comprising a socket portion formed on the inner face of one of said members, a stud portion formed on the other of said members and slidably engaging said socket portion, and a screw providing a wide handling face rotatively supported on the member having said socket portion and threadedly engaging said stud portion for extending and retracting said stud portion relative to said socket portion throughout a continuously variable range of adjustment and further adapted to provide a continuously variable range of adjustment of the compressive forces exerted on the points of said collar as said screw is turned in one direction or the other to urge said members away from each other or towards each other, said socket portion and said stud portion being of complementary non-circm lar cross-sectional shapes limiting said members against rotative action relative to each other, said bar and said clamp jaw member having intimate contact at their center and edge portions and being apart from each other at their intermediate portions.

4. A collar clip comprising a pair of bars, one of the bars having an integral lug having a socket midway of its ends and the other bar having an integral lug sliding in said socket and end clamping lugs, and a screw threaded through the first lug to engage the lug sliding therein and adapted to move the bars toward and away from each other and to cause the end clamping lugs to engage the ends of the first bar.
