My invention relates to. improvements n battery postconnecters wherem the same is particularly constructed and adapted tor more effectively gripping the post of a conventional storage attery. j
' The binding posts of storagebatterles frequently become corroded, and in this condrtion itis quite dilficult to make the proper electrical connection withthe types of bat 10 tery clips now in use, the spring clip now being used, being generally not practical in most cases, because the spring tens on thereof is not suflicient to cause the teeth thereof to bite through the corroded portion of" the post, the main object of m invention being to remedy such asltuation y providing a device which can more effectively be clamped to.

Other very novel objects and advantages of my improved connecter will be apparent as the same is better understood from the sp'eclfloat-ion and claim tofollow.

For a more detail description of my in- 0 vention, I now refer to the drawings in which like numerals designate like parts of the same. An elongated plate 1 is intermediately formed with a pair of spaced ear members 2. Adjacent one end portion of the plate 1,
a set screw 3 is adapted to be threaded'therein for clamping an electrical lead wire against the plate in a manner not shown in the drawing. The opposite end of the plate 1 is'provided with an offset aw member 4 of substantially greater width than the width of the plate 1. The jaw 4 is longitudinally arcuate in shape and formed with a pair of rib members 5 at the longitudinal edges thereof.
These rib members are also of arcuate shape to conform with the contour of the binding posts to which they are to be clamped.
A complementary curved plate 6 is provided at its, intermediate portion with an ear member 7. This ear member 7 is adapted to bedisposed'between the ear members 2 of the plate 1, while a pin 8 connects thesaine in hinged relation. One end of the curved plate .6' -is formed with a head portion-of greater thickness than the thickness of the'curved plate 6. This head portion 9, has a threaded bore through which the threaded element 10 is in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The jaw 12 is also oflset, in the same direction-as-the jaw 4, for
the purpose which will be set out hereinafter. Before applying my connecter to the posts of a storage battery, the threaded element 10 is fed outwardly, so that the jaw members 4 and 12 respectlvely may be expanded. In
this expanded position, they are disposed around the. battery post in a suitable position in respect thereto so that by tightening the threaded element 10, the jaw members 0 will be drawn together, thus causing the ribs 5 and 13 respectively,.to bite efiectively through an corrosion 'on the post to provide a perfect e ectrical connection therewith.
The more the threaded element 10. is 5 threaded through the head 9 and against the plate 1, the greater will be the pressure of the" jaw members 4 and 12 respectively in contact with the post.
'As will be clearly seen in the drawings, the jaw portions of the respective plate members, are offset so that the connecter ma be ri pcd in the hand, without the liability at the and will come in contact with any part of the storage battery, which is usually unlcean and undesirable to touch.
