2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cable clamps for securing opposed portions of a cable or cables in definite fixed relation.
The principal object of the present invention isto provide a cable clamp of the character described which will be substantially fool-proof and positive acting in all respects.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.

Figure 3 is a section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 6 is a top plan view of the bottom section.
Figure 7 is an end elevational View of the bottom section.
Figure 8 is an enlarged perspective view of the offset insert.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numerals 5, 6 represent parallel portions of a cable or cables to be clamped together, and numeral 1 generally refers to the improved clamp.
The clamp consists of an upper plate 8 and a lower plate 9.
The upper plate 8 has a cross groove l9 therein having side alcoves II, II. This intermediate portion of the plate 8 has a bolt opening I2 and further bolt openings l3, l3 are formed toward the ends of the plate 8. The bottom side of the plate 8 has longitudinally extending grooves M, M for the cable portions 5,
The clamp plate 9 has a transverse channelway l5 and through this portion is a bolt opening 16. Further bolt openings l7, ll are disposed through the plate 9 and cable portion receiving grooves l8, [B are provided.
An important factor of the invention is the provision of an offset insert for causing a deflection of the cable portions as shown in Figure 2. This insert is generally referred to by numeral I9 and consists of a substantially rectangularshaped block 20 having a bulged transversely curved bottom portion 2! which has a tendency to force portions of the cable portions 5, 6 into -the channelway l5 of the plate 9, it being ob served that the insert l9 fits into the cross channel ID of the upper plate 8 and that the insert has laterally disposed protuberances 22, 22 which fit into the alcoves I l I I of the plate 8, to the end that in no way can the insert become displaced.
A bolt 23 passes through the openings l2, l6 and through an opening 24 in the insert 19 and this bolt is equipped with a nut 25. Other bolts 26, 26 pass through the openings l3, ll of the upper and lower plates 8, 9 and are equipped with nuts 21. Obviously, when these nuts 21 and 25 are firmly screwed in place, the cable portions within the clamp will be offset and held in that position as shown in Figure 2 so that there is little likelihood that there will be any chance of the cable portions having any longitudinal slippage in relation to each other under any circumstances.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in th shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A clamp for a pair of cables comprising a pair of elongated clamping plates opposed face to face and each having a pair of cable-receiving grooves in said faces thereof extending longitudinally of the same, the pairs of grooves being complemental to fit over opposite sides of the pair of cables, one of said plates having a transverse cruciform central groove in the opposed face thereof, and an elongated cruciform insert fitted in the cruciform groove and having a rounded side projecting out of the cruciform groove to bear against said cables and. form a bend in the same.
2. A clamp for a pair of cables comprising a pair of elongated clamping plates opposed face to face and each having a pair of cable-receiving grooves in said faces thereof extending longitudinally of the same, the pairs of grooves being complemental to fit over opposite sides of the pair of cables, one of said plates having a transverse cruciform central groove in the opposed face thereof, and. an elongated cruciform insert fitted in the cruciform groove and having a rounded side projecting out of the cruciform groove to bear against said cables and form a bend in the same, the other plate having a transverse groove in said face thereof opposed to the cruciform groove and Wider than the same to accommodate said bend.
