TIE-STRAP HOLDER FOR HARNESS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,840, dated July 5, 1881.

Application filed May 12, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, ELIAS A. BLIOKENSTAFF, of North Manchester, county of Wabash, and State of Indiana, have invented certain useful Improvements in Tie-Strap Holders for Harness, of which the following is a specification.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improvement. Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the same.

The object of this invention is to facilitate the securing and releasing of the straps for harnesses.

The invention consists in the combination, with a harness-terret, of a rigid base-bar, an elastic arm, and a spring, as will be hereinafter fully described.

A represents a terret, which is provided with a screw to .be screwed into the harness-saddle in the usual way.

Upon the lower side of the shank of the terret A is formed a bar, B, the lower end of which is provided with a pin or screw, 0, to enter the harness-saddle and prevent the holder and terret from turning when inserting and removing the tie-strap.

Upon the side of the ring of the terret A is formed an elastic arm, D, which is arranged directly over the base-bar B, and which can be curved, as shown in Fig. 1, or made in any other desired shape, as the style of the harnesstrimmings may require.

Upon the outer end of the arm D is formed, or to it is attached, the outer end of a spring, E, which extends inward directly above and parallel with the bar B.

With this construction the tie-strap is socured by passing it into the space between the base-bar B and the spring E, when the elas ticity of the spring E will hold the said tiestrap securely in place. With this construction, also, the elasticity of the spring E and (Model.)

to force the outer ends of the spring E and arm D downward, so as to prevent the said strap from working outward, the tendency being to cause the said tie-strap to work inward, so that it will be held securely.

The bar B and arm D can be formed in one piece with the terret A, or it can be formed separate and held in place by the said terret. The latter construction allows the holder to be applied to a harness that does not have terrets.

If desired, a second sprin g, E, can be formed upon or attached to the base-bar B, and arranged parallel with the first spring E; but the construction first described is preferred, as being simpler, cheaper, and equally effective.

The base-bar B can be omitted and the tiestrap inserted beneath the spring E, so as to be between the said spring and the harnesssaddle, where it will be securely held.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a tie-strap holder, the combination, with the terret A, of the rigid base-bar B, the elastic arm D, and the spring E, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the tiestrap can be readily inserted and withdrawn, and will be securely held, as set forth.
