1 claim. (CL2-#841 This invention relates to a combined hood and l cape for protection against wind and rain.

An object of this inventionis to provide a ladys garment in the form of'a combined hood and cape which is of such construction that it will readily fold up into a small package for carrying in a purse.

Another object of this invention is to provide a garment o-r article of wearing apparel of this kind which can be made of light, waterproof fabric, or may be made of heavier fabric adapted to keep the wearer warm and protect the wearer against winds, rain and cold.

The combined hood and cape embodies a substantially circular cape which is split at the front and may be tied, buttoned or otherwise fastened together, and a hood which is designed to engage over the head in a manner loose enough so that the hood may cover a small hat, the hood being provided with a visor which may be swung from a position overlapping the hood to a forwardly projecting position.

With the foregoing objects in view, and others which may hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be under stood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention, as claimed.

Referring now to Figures 1 to 6 inclusive there is disclosed a combined hood and cape, which is adapted to be made out of waterproof material. The hood a is formed of members 11a and 18a secured together by stitching and the hood forming members Ha and 18a, at their forward edges, as indicated at 50 and 5l, cross each other. The hood 15a has secured to the forward edge thereof, a visor 2da. The visor 24a, however, is formed of two plies of material 52 and 53 which, at their 2 inner edges, are provided with-a double fold, as indicated at 54 and 55 respectively and the hood 45a, at its forward edge, is also reverted, as indi- 'cated at 56. The reverted portions of the hood and visor are then stitched together by stitching 51. The outer or forward edges of the visor forming members 52 and 53 are folded reversely, as indicated at 58 and 59, the fold 58 being a double fold and the folded portions 58 and 59 are then stitched, as by stitching 50, to the visor forming members 52 and 53.

The cape 16a, in the present instance, is formed of a substantially semi-circular piece of fabric, which is preferably made from two fabric pieces 6I and 62 stitched together along the .line 63. Along the line 63 connecting the cape members 6I and 62, there are secured a pair of tapes 54 which provide one means for securing the open front portions of the cape together. As shown in Figure 3, the cape member 6I has the free edge formed into a double fold, as indicated at B5, and the adjacent edge of the cape member 62 is also formed into a single fold 65. The tape 64 is formed into a single fold, as indicated at 61, and the folded portions of the cape members 5l and B2 are stitched together and the tape stitched to the folded portions of the cape sections by stitching 68. The lower marginal portion of the cape 16a is folded into a reverse fold er hem, as indicated at 69, which is secured to the body of the cape Ita by stitching 15. The free edge of the cape section 6l, which is adapted to overlap the cape section 62, is formed, as shown in Figure 6, with a double fold 1l, and one end of each of a pair of tapes 12 isv formed into a single fold 13 for interlocking with the double bend or fold 1| and stitching 14 secures the folded portion 1I and the ends of the tapes 12 to the free edge of the cape section 6 I.

'I'he combined hood and cape hereinbefore described is adapted to be made out of fabric, preferably waterproof fabric, which is of such constructlonthat when the device is not worn it may be readily folded into a relatively small package. The hood I5a forms a, protecting element for the hair of the wearer in addition to the head so that the head of the wearer will not become wet in rainy weather and in addition the hair of the wearer will not be blown by the wind. The visor 24 may be worn in either forwardly projecting relation so as to protect the face of the wearer, or it may be folded rearwardly, as shown in Figure 1, where the visor overlaps the forward upper portion of the hood. The cape is fastened by overlapping the separated forward portions thereof as shown in Figure 2, and then tying the complementary tapes 64 and 12. That portion of the hood below the visor constitutes a protecting medium for the neck ofthe wearer and, as shown in Figure 2, the neck covering portions of the hood at the front overlap or cross each other at a point below the chin of the wearer. This combined hood and cape may besmade in any desired color and will form an attractive garment for protecting the wearer against wind or rain, or both. The cape is preferably of suiiedges, convex upper edges, and substantially straight rear edges merging into said convex upper edges, means securing said upper and rear edges together, said cape comprising a pair of sector-shaped sections, means securing one edge of one section to an adjacent edge of the other section, a pair of tapes carried by the free edge of one section, and a second pair of tapes xed Abetween the secured edges of said sections.
