Description

Patented Feb. 24, 1948 2,436,523 HAIR CURLER Isaac Meohas, Long Beach, Calif.
Application November 23, 1946, Serial No.
7 Claims. (Cl. 13241) This invention relates to barrettes, hair-retainers or hair between which hair can be gripped and curled.
The barrettes, hair-retainers or hair curlers now in use and disclosed in the prior art usually consist of two limbs Joined at one end by some suitable one-way hinge which will allow the hair curler to be opened in one direction only in order to facilitate the insertion of one limb into the hair curler which may be inserted in the hair with the minimum amount of efiort. Still another object of this and joined in a manner hereinafter disclosed, the basic limb being a solid piece of plast c, or any other suitable material, with an arc therein to fit the curve or contour of the one end of the basic limb having a clamplip being directed inwardly towards the concaved surface of the to the arc provided for in the basic limb, but said limbbeing a little shorter than the basic limb and being provided with a two pronged a length greater than the second limb and equal is also provided on the pivoting in relation to the basic limb.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood and readily carried int effect, some constructions in accordance therewith will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a side view of all three limbs.
Figure 2 shows a top View of basic limb and side views of second and third limb when expanded.
Figure 3 shows a side view straight hair-retainer.
Figure 4 shows a side view of the modified and inverted hair-retainer,
Referring now to the drawing and Figures 1 and 2 in particular, A represents the basic plastic limb. For purposes of this example all parts are designated as plastic, but it is to be understood that this invention is in no way limited to plastic compositions alone. The curve or arc in basic limb A may be of any pending on the contour of the persons hair is to be treated, I represents clamping lip or fold-over, which is constructed in such a manner of the modified hinge pin 6 by means of hole 9 is pivot pin l0. Pivot pin i0 is positioned on hinge pin 6 in such a manner than pivot pin I9 is capable of pivoting to a certain degree around ate in the manner of a hinge and also in a circular manner around pivot pin it. of second limb B opposite prong 2 thus securing B. Positioned above a snug contact with the under: side'of prong H on second limb B.
A modification of the above described inven-- tion is shown in Figure 3 and is designated herein as the straight limb hair curler. This modification is constructed and operates in thesame'manner as shown and described in .relationltov Figures 1 and 2, but is varied in that allthree limbs, D, E and F are straight, whereas the limbs above are curved in an are suitable to fit the contour of a-humanihead;
Another modificationoi the abovedescribed invention is shown in Figure 4 and is designated herein asrthe inverted hair curler. This modification isconstructed and-operates in-the same manner as shown and described inrelation to Figuresl and 2, but is varied therefrom in that all three limbs, G, H and I are curved in an are opposite iromthat shown inrelation to Figures 1 and,2, i.- e.', lip la is curved inwardly. towards the convexed surface of-the basic limb .-G and lip i'ia is curved inwardly towards the concaved surface of'limb I.
In carrying the invention into efiect third limb C is inserted into the hair and underneaththe hair desired to be curled. After the third limb is in proper position, second limb-B is swung around on pivot pin Hi so that itis directly on top of third limb C and lip IT is clamped over prong It thus clamping the selected portion of hairbttween the surfaces of third and second limb. After third. and'second limb are in proper position'they'are rolled to a sufficient degree to curl the-hair around the two limbs. After the hair has been-rolled to a sufiicient degree, basic limb A is lowered on hinge pin 6 and swung around on pivot pin it] so that it isdirectly on top of second and third limb. Lip: on basic limb A is clamped over prong 2 so that it holds second limb securely in position, thus holding the rolled hair in a secured'position.
The modifird straight limb hair curler, as shown in Figure 3 is operated in the samemanner as-the hair curler shown in Figures 1 and 2 and described above.
The modified inverted hair curler is operated in the following manner, basic limb G is inserted into the hair and underneath the hair desired to be curled sothat the-concaved side-of said basic limb is ad acent to the head. Aiterbasic limb G is in proper position, second limb H is swung around on pivot pin it] so that it isdirectly on top of basic limb G and lip la is clampedover prong 2 thus clamping the selected portion of hair to be curled between the surfaces of basic and second limb. Afterthe basic and second limb are in properposition-theyare rolledto a;- sufficient degree to curl the hair around the two limbs; After'the hair has been curledrto the desired degree, third limb I is swung around on pivot pin it so that it is directly on'itoprof basic and second limb and lip Ila is clamped over prong H on limb H, thus holding the rolled'hair in a secured position.
The foregoing description of my: invention is towards the concaved not to be taken as limiting but only illustrative thereof since many variations may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
