said pads are resiliently pressed against the eyelashes in the cavities to dry and conform them to the transverse curvature of the cavities. The device includes releasable means for retaining thearms depressed and the pads thereon in eyelashcurling contact.
EYEILASE'I DRYING AND CURILING DEVICE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention. The care, protection from damage, and retention of the desired curved form of the hairs of false eyelashes after the SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION.
This invention comprises a device which, generally, comprises a base It), a pair of similar transversely spaced depressions ill in the top face of said base for holding a pair-of false eyelashes in position to be dried and formed in amanner that the foundation strips and attached lash hairs thereof are in proper disposition and arrangement in said depressions, a pair of arms 12 mounted on said base in transverse alignment with the respective depressions 11, a replaceable pressing and drying pad 13 carried by each arm in position to enter each respective depression and in superimposed engagement with eyelashes disposed in the depressions, means 14, in one form of the invention, to depress each arm. 12 in a manner to cause the pad 13 thereon to exert a resilient and adjustable pressure on .said eyelashes, and, alternatively, means 140, in another form of the invention, to exert a uniform resilient pressure on said eyelashes. Y
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device, as above generally characterized, that safely stores, protects from injury, dries, and forms the hairs of a pair of false eyelashes, which have been washed to remove accumulations of cosmetics, so they are dried and the lash hairs separate and given an upswept curl.
This invention also has for its objects to provide such means that are positive in operation, convenient in use, easily installed in a working position and easily disconnected therefrom, economical of manufacture, relatively simple, and of general superiority and serviceability.
The invention also comprises novel details of construction and novel combinations and arrangements of parts, which will more fully appear in the course of the following description, which is based on the accompanying drawing. However, said drawing merely shows, and the following specification merely describes, preferred embodiments of the present invention, which are given by way of illustration or example only.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING In the drawing, like reference characters designate similar parts in the several views.
FIG. l is a plan view of an eyelash drying and curling device according to the present invention, a portion being broken away.
FKG. 2 is an enlarged end elevational view, partly in section, and shown in open, nonoperating position.
FIG. 3 is a similarly enlarged cross-sectional view, as taken on the line 3-3 of FIG. 1, and shown in closed or lash-pressing position.
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary sectional detail view of a modification.
FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view as taken on the line 3-5 of FIG. 4.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The strip of false eyelashes that is shown in FIGS. 1 and 3 does not per se comprise part of this invention. The same, conventionally, is formed to have a backing strip tape which is adapted to be applied and thereby attached to the edge of an eyelid, and a set of lash hairs 17 extending from said strip. It is common for such lash hairs to be provided with an upswept curvature in conformation to the natural curvature of natural lashes. The present device constitutes a means for retaining and/or effecting such conformation during periods of nonuse of the eyelashes, after the same have been cleaned of cosmetic accumulations.
The base it) is preferably molded of synthetic plastics material, preferably of thin-walled, rectangular shape, as shown, and regardless how otherwise formed, is provided with a flat top 18. In this instance, the base It) is shown interiorly hollow and fitted with a drawer 119 for storing items attending the present device and its use.
The depressions iii are preferably disposed at opposite sides of said top 18, thereby providing clearance for the drawer 119 between them. Each depression is transversely curved, as shown inFIG. 3, and preferably has a shallow, longitudinal curvature, as seen at the right side of FIG. I. It will be clear that a washed eyelash strip 15, when placed in such a depression, will have its backing strip 16 arranged along the concave edge of the depression with the lash hairs 17 fanned out, as shown. If the lash hairs have all or some of their desired curvature, they will follow the transverse curvature of the depression accordingly.
If desired, the concavely curved edge of the cavity may be formed in a manner to retain the backing strip 16 in the position in which it is placed, so that hair arrangement is facilitated. In any case, the cavity is formed so as to retain the strip of eyelashes in set position.
Each arm 12 is connected at one end 20 to the base 10 at a point rearward of and in medial alignment with a cavity 11. In this case, a hinge connection 21 is shown, although a fixed connection may be used, provided said arm is capable of flexure such as by means of a resilient extension 22, as part of said arm. In this case, said arm is provided on its free end with a pad holder 23 which is shown as having a channel cross section that generally conforms to the longitudinal curvature of the depression 11 with which it is in register.
Each replaceable pad 13 may comprise a roll of porous and resilient material, as polyethylene of foamy or rubbery consistency, or of any other suitably elastic, compressible and porous material, provided the same is formed to have an exposed face 24 that is convex. Such a pad is preferably replaceably held in the holder 23 in such registry with a depression II as to generally conform thereto. Thus, as seen in FIG. 3, upon depression of the arm 12, the pad 13 will engage and downwardly press the lash hairs 17 so the same will cause them to conform to the transverse curvature of the depression. The pores of said pad, while pressing on the lash hairs, will absorb moisture therefrom to dry the same.
In the form of the invention shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the
The arm 12; may be hinged and flexible, and with a spring to bias the same to raised position, as shown; or the arm may be a rigid member on a hinge and biased to raised position by a spring; or the hinge may be replaced by a fixed connection to the base It) and the arm comprise a flexible, upwardly biased member not requiring a separate spring to raise the same.
While the foregoing has illustrated and described what are now contemplated to be the best modes of carrying out the invention, the constructions are, of course, subject to modification without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
