Description
Filed April 14, 1945 Patented Feb. 17, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GHILDS OUTER GARMENT Leonard A. Forkish, New York, N. Y.
Application April 14, 1945, Serial No. 588,384
1 Claim; 1
The invention relates to improvements in childs outer garments and has for its primary object the provision of an improved garment of the character indicated, which is of simple construction and highly efficient in use.
' Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention will be best understood by refernce to the accompanying drawings forming a part of .the specification and in which- Fig. 1 is a front view of a garment embodying the invention;
Fig. 2, a rear view of the same;
Fig. 3, a perspective sectional view of the same; and
Fig. 4, a detailed section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1 illustrating the method of attachment between the suspender straps and the bib of the garment.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings comprises a lower body portion IB having the leg portions I I and deep side openings detachably closed by means of three snap fasteners I 2 at each opening, as indicated. As best indicated in Fig. 3, the side openings of the garment extend downwardly from the waist portions thereof to points substantially level with the crotch l3 of the garment when the same is distended by use, and whereby the rear flap of the garment is capable of dropping completely in use so as to give free access to'the under garments at the rear.
A bib I4 is formed at the front upper portion of the garment body and suspender straps [5 are permanently secured to the top edge of said bib. As best indicated in Fig. 4, the bib IA is of double thickness of material and the ends l5 of the straps l5 are secured between them, thereby providing a strong and durable connection for the suspender straps. As shown, plaits H are formed in the upper front of the body portion I 0 directly under the ends l6, whereby a desirable support and distribution is afforded for the strains upon the garment at these points. At the rear, the body portion I0 is provided with other plaits l8, and snap fasteners l9 are secured to said plaits to cooperate with snap fasteners 20 on the rear ends of the straps l5, using the upper or lowermost fastening 20 on the snap fasteners l9 shown in Figure 3, as will be readily understood. By this arrangement three thicknesses of cloth are thus provided for mounting the snap fasteners I9 making a strong, distributive and adjustable connection for the rear ends of the suspender straps. By permanently securing the suspender straps to the bib of the garment at the front, and detachably securing them at the rear, said detachable attachment cannot be readily loosened by a child, which is a desirable feature when the garment is employed as a child's overall, crawler, suit, snow suit, wash suit, or cover-all. The specific form and arrangement of parts disclosed is a simple and effective one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation. and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A child's outer garment comprising a lower body portion; a bib portion of double thickness at the top of the front of said body portion; shoulder straps attached to both of the upper outer corners of said bib portion and joined in cross relation intermediate their ends; a plurality of snap fastener members carried at the outer ends of said straps; a downward opening rear flap portion folding transversely at a line substantially level with the crotch; two plaits of triple thickness of material arranged in spaced relation at the top of said rear flap portion having snap fastener members secured thereto, arranged and adapted for detachably connecting said rear flap with said bib and for adjusting said garment to a wearer.
