Description
Feb. 10, 1948. m. HAZELET' 2,435,833
I BOTTLE CARRIER Filed May 14, 1946 I nveutor flu] J HazeZei* WW M Patented Feb. 10, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BOTTLE CARRIER Paul J. Hazelet, Fort Wayne, Ind. Application May 14, 1946, Serial No. 669,617
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to novel and useful improvements and structural refinements in bottle carriers, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herein described in which the bottles are easily and conveniently carried by being suspended by the neck portions thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bottle carrier into which the bottles may be easily inserted and readily removed therefrom.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bottle carrier which is of simple yet durable construction and which may be repeatedly used without becoming damaged.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a carrier which can be economically manufactured in large quantities.
With the above more important objects in view, and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the carrier,
Figure 2 is an end view thereof,
Figure 3 shows the top plan view of the same, and
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken in the plane of the line 4-4 in Figure 1 and illustrating the carrier in operation.
Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a vertical plate designated by the general reference numeral I. provided at the upper end thereof with an elongated handle 2. Adjacent the handle is a restricted neck 3 which terminates in a comparatively wider body 4 at the lower end of the plate I.
The bottles 5 are held in a plurality of apertures 6 formed in a pair of elongated holders 1. Each of the latter is provided on one end oi. one of its longitudinal sides with a pair of hinge portions 8 and a similar portion 9 is formed at the remaining end of the same side of each holder.
When the holders 1 are assembled on the opposite sides of the plate I, the hinge portions 8 and 9 will straddle the neck 3, as is best illustrated in the accompanying Figure 1.
A hinge pin I is passed through longitudinally aligned apertures provided in the neck 3 and the hinge portions 8 and 9, whereby the hinge portions and the neck will cooperate to form a hinge of one continuous length.
When the invention is placed in use, the holders 1 are first elevated to an approximately horizontal position so that the neck portions of the bottles 5 will pass freely into the apertures 6.
When the carrier is subsequently lifted by means of the handle 2, the holders 1, which by gravity have dropped to the declined positions indicated in Figure 4, will grip the necks of the bottles at different elevations at the diametrically opposed sides of the apertures 6, whereby the bottles may be easily and conveniently lifted.
While suspended, the lower ends of the bottles 5 will be urged against the body 4 of the plate I, which will act as an effective separator to prevent the opposed pairs of bottles from coming into contact.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention claimed.
What I claim as my invention is:
A bottle carrier comprising, in combination, a vertical plate forming a handle at the upper end thereof, a restricted neck portion in said plate adjacent said handle, a comparatively wider body at the lower end of said plate, a pair of elongated holders each with a plurality of bottle neck receiving apertures formed therein, a hinge portion at the ends of one longitudinal side of one of said holders, a cooperating hinge portion at the ends of one longitudinal side of the remaining of said holders, said hinge portions straddling said neck portion, said holders extending to the opposite sides of said plate, and a hinge pin, said pin passing through longitudinally aligned apertures formed in said neck portion and in said hinge portions.
