1 claim. (ci. .2M-smi Thisinvention relates to containers and more particularly to a carrier for `bottles that can be held and manipulated by the hand.

Most light Weight carriers for beverage bottles require considerable material and sustain the bottles by the bottom. The` disadvantages of these carriers, are that they are relatively expensive to manufacture and use, and require considerable time and care in the placement of the bottles therein.

It is an object of the invention to provide a new and improved bottle carrier that will avoid one or more of the disadvantages and limitations of the prior art.

Another object of this invention is to provide a new and improved bottle carrier that will permit the bottle carried to be secured by the neck.

An additional object of the present invention vis to provide a new and improved bottle carrier,

that can be attached to or removed from the bottles expeditiously and will tend to tighten on them in place as they are carried along in it.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a new and improved bottle carrier, that can be constructed in a form economical in the use of material and therefore light and non-cumbersome.

For a better understanding of the invention reference is made to the appended drawings and following description, of a form of the invention used to illustrate its general manner of operation and the principles under which it operates, while the scope of the invention is pointed out in the claim.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.

Referring to Figure 1, in which the carrier is shown with six bottles in dotted outline, assembled in it, the carrier comprises a single plate I0 of sturdy flat material bent slightly to provide a middle flat portion Il from which the sides 22 extend downwardly and transversely therefrom as indicated in Figure 2. Three sets of openings I2 are out transversely in the plate I0 having their ends I3 semi-circularly formed with tangent border lines I4 running towards the middles which are enlarged to a larger diameter .2.3, sizedtofpermit the cap-ends or heads I5 of the` beverage bottles I6, to be inserted there*- through. The restricted spaces between the border lines I4 however will engage the necks I1 of the bottles when they are pushed towards the ends I3 and at such positions the heads I5 cannot pass through because they are larger than the spaces and the ends I3. A horizontal handle I8 is secured to the lugs I9 through links 2|. It is placed longitudinally over the normal center of gravity of the carrier lled with bottles. This arrangement of parts of the handle enables it to be close to the upper surface of the plate I0, when not in use.

When the bottles are placed in the carrier, the raising of the carrier causes them to drift to the ends I3 and bend the plate more angularly. The sides of the bottles contact and prevent further bending. The bending however produces a wedging action of the sides I4 of the openings which tightens up on the necks of the bottles. The bent portion of the plate in a, slanting direction from the flat middle portion, clownwardly, makes the plate more rigid.

In the modified form, shown in Figure 4, six bottles are carried in it, but otherwise the construction is similar to previous form described except that the' plate is bent in reverse to Figure 2 and the bottles are inserted peripherally.

While but two general forms of the invention are shown in the drawings and described in the specification it is not desired to limit this application for patent to these particular forms or in any other way otherwise than limited by the scope thereof, as it is appreciated that other forms could be made that would use the same principles and come within the scope of the appended claim. v

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

A carrier for bottles having heads and restricted neck portions immediately therebeneath, comprising a generally rectangular exible plate having a central flat portion extending lengthwise thereof, the plate further including opposed normally at side portions extending downwardly and transversely of said flat portion, and having outwardly convexed free edges in the planes thereof, said -plate being provided with elongated openings extending through and transversely of said flat portion, into said side portions and terminating inwardly of the convexed edges thereof, said openings being in parallel relation and being spaced from each other to provide sub.
