Application October 30, 1942, Serial No. 465,272 lClaim. (o1.224-45) This invention relates toa holder and while primarily designed andintended for carrying a pair of conventional type of scrubbing pails used described,v which is particularly adapted for 10 carrying a pair of conventional type of scrubbing pails, which allows the removal of either of the latter therefrom for independent emptying purposes, which embodies novel and conveniently operable means for securing the pair of pails therein or for releasing the latter therefrom, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, durable, compact, attractive in appearance, and comparatively economical in its manufacture and use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but it is to be understood that changes in th form, proportions and details of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

Referring in detail to the drawin l and 2 respectively denote a pair of similar scrubbing pails- Each of the latter is of the conventional metal type and well known construction, and includes the usual tapering side wall 3 and bail 4. p
The improved holder comprises a continuous strip or strap metal loop, which is shaped to form a pair of similar carrier bands, respectively indicated at 5 and B, and a constricted neck between the latter. The carrier'bands are horizontally aligned, and are spaced from each other by the interposed constricted neck, which latter consists of a pair of spaced, parallel disposed neck members, respectively indicated at 1 and 8, and forming'portions of the loop structure. A transversely extending cross-bar 9 is disposed between the neck members I and 8. The cross-bar is formed'with depending end portions H) which arev permanently secured to respective neck members by means of rivets ll, welding, or in any other suitable manner.
Acarrying handle I2 is fixed in position between the upper ends of a pair of connecting arms [3. The latter are disposed vertically upward and have their lower ends permanently secured to respective neck members 1 and 8 by means of the rivets II, or in any other suitable holder structure properly adapted for the intended purpose. I
The metal strap sheet material is generally disposed vertically edgewise in the loop structure, and the walls of the carrier bands 5 and 6 extend at a slight angle fromv the vertical to conform to the tapers of the side walls 3 of the "pails I and 21 The diameters and dispositions of the carrier bands are such that the latter will flatly encompass and engage on the peripheries of the side walls of the pails adjacent to but spaced from the tops of the latter, as clearly illustrated in Figure 1.
For removably securing the pails l and'Z in the improved holder a novel .clamping element is' provided. The latter comprises an oblong clamping plate l4 having depending end lugs l5, which are adapted for engaging adjacent top portions of the top rims of the pails l and 2. The clamping plate I4 is fixed to the upper end of a vertically disposed bolt I6, which latter extends through the center of the cross-bar 9. An adjusting nut I1 is engaged on the lower end of the 1' bolt l6 and operable for adjusting a spiral tensioning spring. l8 which is mounted on the bolt between said nut and the under face of the crossbar. The bolt is revoluble and vertically shiftable in the cross-bar, and a stop disk I9 is fixed 55 thereon to limit the downward movement of said bolt through the cross-bar, whereby the action of the spring l8 will hold the bolt in the vertical position in the cross-bar when the clamping plate is disengaged from the pails l and 2. A vertically disposed finger ring 20 is fixed on the top of the clamping plate I4 for facilitating the manipulation of the clamping element when securing or releasing the pails l and 2 in the holder structure.
When the clamping plate I isdisposed parallel to the cross-bar 9, the former will be in the releasing or disengaged position, and when the clamping plate is shifted to extend at right angles to the cross-bar, the depending lugs IE will overlap and engage the top rims of respective pails I and 2.
To secure the pails l and 2 in respective carrier bands 5 and 6, the operator simply inserts his finger in the ring 20 and elevates the clamping plate l4 against the action of the spring [8. 'The clamping plate is then turned at right angles and lowered upon the top rims of the pails l and 2. The action of the spring will tensionally hold the clamping plate in engagement with the pails, whereby the latter will be securely clamped and held in the holder. Further,- the engagement of the lugs IE on the top rims of the pails will eliminate the tendency of the latter to sag at the free sides of the carrier bands, particularly when said pails are weighted by their contents.
The present invention provides a most efiicient device of its kind, which will securely hold and carry a pair of pails, which allows the convenient removal of either of the pails for independent emptying purposes, or for independent pail replacement when required, and which may be economically constructed and employed for all purposes wherein applicable.
What I claim is:
A holder for a pair of pails comprising the combination of a continuous strip of material formed to provide a pair of carrier bands for receiving and supporting the pails and further being formed to provide a constricted neck between said hands, a handle fixed to said neck, a crossbarsecured in said neck, a bolt mounted in said cross-bar and being vertically and revolubly shiftable in the latter, a spiral spring mounted on said bolt below said cross-bar and abutting against the latter, a nut threadedly engaged on thelower end of said bolt for retaining and adjusting said spring on said bolt, a stop disk fixed on said bolt above said cross-bar for limiting the downward movement of said bolt in said cross-bar, a clamp plate fixed to the upper end of said bolt and being provided with depending end lugs overlapping and engaging the top rims of respective pails to retain the latter in said bands, and a vertically disposed finger ring fixed to the top of said clamping plate for facilitating the manipulation of the latter to secure and release the pails in said bands.
