Description
(No Model.) I. K. BENNETT.
Patented June-'28, 188i.
Wu m n 6 b s a U m R,
INVENTOR ATTORNEYS llllll UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC K. BENNETT, OF MOOSUP, CONNECTICUT.
RAIL-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,490, dated June 28, 1881.
Application filed April 26, 1881.
(N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC K. BENNETT, of Moosup, in the county of Windham, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rail-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for securing rails and chairs to the ties and sleepers.
The invention consists in a novel construction, combination, and arrangement of a chair, aruhber pad, a concave metal plate, and spikes 0r bolts for securing the parts, as hereinafter more particularly described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view of my invention with the metal plate removed. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken in the line a w of Fig. 1, and Fig.3 is a vertical section taken in the line y y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
B is the chair, which is secured to the tie or sleeper by square-headed spikes b passing through square holes in its bottom.
D is a rubber pad resting on the bottom of the chair, and having square notches d at its corners for the reception of the heads of the spikes b.
E is a metal plate fitting in the chair and resting on the pad D, and having a concavity on its lower side forming an air-chamber or air-cushion, e. The foot d of the rail A rests upon the plate E, and is secured by hookheaded spikes H, passing through square holes in the sides of the chair, as shown in Fig. 2, and thus also assisting the chair to the tie or sleeper.
By the use of the concave plate E and rubber pad D, greater elasticity is imparted to ISAAC KING BENNETT.
