Description

Jan. 6, 1948. E. JOBE 2,434,163
EGG CASE CARRIER Fi led Dec. 21, 1945 Inn-mar WW Z5.
Patented Jan. 6, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EGG CASE CARRIER Earl J obe, El Cajon, Calif.
Application December 21, 1945, Serial No. 636,386
2 Claims. 1
My invention relates to structural refinements and useful improvements in egg case carriers and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character here-within described, by means of which a case of eggs may be easily lifted and conveniently carried by using only one hand.
A further object of my invention is to provide a carrier in which certain precautions are taken for supporting and simultaneously gripping the egg case with adequate safety While the same is being transported.
A further object of my invention is to provide a carrier which can be readily released from its load.
A further object of my invention is to provide a carrier which is simple in construction and which cannot be easily damaged.
With the above more important objects in view, and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, my invention consists of the construction and arrangement of parts essentially as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows the plan view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation, showing an egg case supported by my carrier.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary, end elevational view of the subject shown in Figure 2.
Similar characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, my invention comprises two outstretched arms I and 2, each consisting of a pair of convergent side members 3 and A respectively.
The inner ends 5 of the members 3 are joined together by a suitable thickness of Weld 6 to provide a fork-like extremity of suflicient width to accommodate the convergent ends 1 of the members 4.
The adjacent ends 5 and l of the arms I and 2 are pivotally connected together by a pin 6 passing through suitable, aligned apertures formed therein, and a three-sided handle 9, having a circular cross-sectional configuration is secured to the arm 2, adjacent the pivot 8.
The outer ends of the arms I and 2 are secured near the extremities of L-shaped crossmembers 9', the inturned flanges III of which bear against the underside of a reinforcing strip ll, usually provided adjacent to the top of the egg case 12.
To assure safety in handling, a pair of gripping pins l3 are pressed into suitable apertures formed in each of the members 9', the inwardly projecting ends of said pins being tapered to a point which may imbed itself into the strip ll.
When my invention is placed in operation, it will be apparent that the case 12 will be held 2 firmly and securely as soon as lifting force is applied to the handle 9, whereupon it may be transported with considerably increased ease and convenience than has been heretofore possible.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope oi the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. An egg case carrier comprising, in combination, a pair of outstretched arms, each of said arms comprising a pair of converging side members, said side members of one of said arms being spaced apart to form a forked extremity at the convergent end thereof, the convergent end of the remaining of said arms engaging said forked ex tremity, a pivot pin extending transversely through the adjacent ends oi said arms, a threesided handle secured to the upper side of said remaining arm at the convergent end thereof, a pair of cross members mounted at the outer ends of said arms, an inturned flange and a plurality of gripping pins projecting inwardly from said cross members.
2. In association with an egg case having a reinforcing strip surrounding the upper end thereof, a carrier comprising, in combination, a pair of outstretched arms, each of said arms comprising a pair of converging side members, said side members of one of said arms being spaced apart to form a forked extremity at the convergent end thereof, the convergent end of the remaining of said arms engaging said forked extremity, a pivot pin extending transversely through the adjacent ends of said arms, a three-sided handle secured to the upper side of said remaining arm at the convergent end thereof, a pair of cross members mounted at the outer ends of said arms, an inturned flange formed along the lower edge of each of said cross members, said flanges engaging the underside of said reinforcing strip, and a plurality of pointed pins, said pins projecting inwardly from a plurality of apertures formed in said cross members and gripping said strip.
EARL J OBE.
