LENA @ARDELLA Y W g mmmy Patented Dec. 16, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SLIP Lena Gardella, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application February 7, 1945, Serial No. 576,583
1 Claim. (01. 2-73) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in slips.
More particularly, the invention proposes an improved slip which is characterized by a relatively narrow front, a relatively wide back extending around to the front and forming side panels at the front of said slip, and a top back set into said back for covering the back of a person wearing said slip, said construction preventing the said slip from riding up.
The invention proposes to provide said front with darts to form breast cups.
Furthermore, the invention contemplates constructing the back and the top back so that the threads are on the bias.
Another object of the invention resides in providing the slip with an inner bra-like support, a shadow panel, and similar parts, if this is desired.
A further object of the invention proposes to form the top back of elastic material, when an inner bra-like non-adjustable support is used.
Still further the invention proposes the construction of a slip as mentioned, which is simple, desirable, and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure- Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a slip constructed in accordance with one form of this invention,
Fig. 2 is a back View of the slip shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the slip.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4--4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a developed view of the piece used to construct the front.
Fig. 6 is a developed view of the piece used to construct the back.
Fig. '7 is a developed view of the piece used to construct the top back.
Fig, 8 is a front elevational view of a slip constructed in accordance with another form of this invention.
Fig. 9 is a back view of the slip shown in Fig. 8.
The new and improved slip, in accordance with this invention, includes a relatively narrow front [0. A relatively wide back I I extends around to the front and forms side panels l2 at the front of the slip. A top back I4 is set into the back I l for covering the back of a person wearing the slip. The slip is provided with the usual shoulder straps [5.
The front Ill is formed with darts Hi to form breast cups. The front is cut with the material straight, indicated by the arrow H in Fig. 5. The back is cut on the bias, indicated by the arrow it in Fig. 6. The straight is indicated by the arrow Ill. The top back I4 is also cut on the bias, indicated by the arrow 20. The straight is indicated by the arrow 2|.
The slip may be provided with an inner brasupport 24. This bra-support is adjustable. At the back it is provided with a lace 25 by which it may be pulled in or let out. The bra-support 24 is attached to the front ID by stitches 26.
In Figs. 8 and 9 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the prior form, distinguishing essentially in two respects. In this form of the invention the inner bra-support 28 is fixed, that is, it is not adjustable. To compensate for this, the top back 29 is constructed of elastic material. The top edge 30 of the top back 29 is also cut low. The front I0 is provided with a shadow-panel so.
In other respects this form of the invention is identical to the previous form and like parts are identified by like reference numerals.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A slip for wear by a woman, comprising a main front section having a lower portion provided with downwardly diverging Side edges from the waist line of the garment and upwardly diverging side lines from the waist line to provide a brassire portion, a back section having forwardly extending side portions stitched to the downwardly diverging edges of the main front section and provided with side edges diverging upwardly from the waist line, a top back section having downwardly convergin lower edges stitched to said upwardly diverging edges of the back section, and shoulder straps connecting the top back section to the upper part of the front section, the vertical center line of the top back section and the vertical center line of the back section being disposed on a bias to the direction of the threads of the sections, and a lining for the brassire portion.
